Bill Moos was in an uncomfortable situation, or a very simple one, depending on your point of view. He was responsible for picking the next head coach at historic Nebraska. But he had a very popular choice handed to him on a platter. Had Moos NOT hired SF, fans would have likely taken the torches and pitchforks after Moos. Despite that, he would have been vindicated if either (1) he hired a coach for Nebraska that would make people forget about the failure to hire SF, or (2) if SF fell on his face at Florida or Tennessee. Both these scenarios might take a while to come to fruition. But Moos was on a shorter life cycle. He was close to retirement himself. So, he took the easy and comfortable way out and went after the home town hero. Another of a ridiculously long list of unforced errors on the part of university leaders.
Hindsight is definitely 20/20.
