Big Ten Coaches Talk Anonymously...Time for Rhule to prove them wrong.

He is good at culture. He’s can’t think of a time he clearly won the game planning, although we haven’t seen the halftime adjustments so one-sided like we did under Frost.

A culture head coach can win with the right assistants given the right authority. Bobby Bowden was like this. I think Rhule can have success too. But he may be more susceptible to a bad assistant hire having more detrimental impact.

I think it’s taken a few years after his return from the NFL to really get the quality of staff he needs for success. I like this uear’s staff a LOT more than any other group he’s had. We are also seeing more competitive recruiting.
I would argue that Bobby Bowden's success was due at least as much to easy access to all those fast Florida athletes, though I agree he did have some good assistant coaches.

I think what we are seeing is unlimited money and unlimited portal access is changing how and what college coaches need to do to succeed, particularly regarding recruiting. I wonder if Rhule is the right guy to lead the football team to success in this new college sports world we live in?

Maybe he is, maybe not. So far, I am not impressed by Rhule, and I expect better results from a guy making $9 million a year. If we are ok with 6 wins a year and a lower-tier bowl game, we can hire smilin' Mike again for significantly less money than what we are paying Rhule.

Bowden had some very good players early on for sure and solid, smart coaches. In those early years of Bowden's tenure, they were going on the road and taking on giants and they were winning some of those games. Not just because of few good players, but with coaching savvy too. They always seemed to have a good plan for TO, that's for sure. In the later years it was mostly great players though. Once Bowden started getting the Florida stars to come to FSU it was all they needed to get over on the Gators and Canes... then on to getting the Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana talent... but Bowden had to start somewhere and they won quickly under him due to the coaching on the field.....taking down big name programs on their home fields.

I haven't seen this under Rhule (yet).... (see end of Maryland game in his first year for example of not savvy...not savvy at all)

Maybe I am being too harsh on Rhule, but man, you gotta outsmart somebody on the field at sometime or another.

Let us know when he hits 6 wins.

To be fair opposing coaches are in a no win situation when asked about other schools. If they only say nice things it will be used against them, if they are open and candid it will be used against them, if they answer anonymously it will be used against them, and if they choose not to answer it will be used against them.

Folks these days just seem to be out to get things to use against others for clicks.

Disagree

Simply and politely refuse to answer good or bad

Agree with your last paragraph

As RR said above, they don’t have to speak at all. It is their choice to talk.

How is a college football publication going to use this against them? Assistant coaches should route all calls to the football office administrative assistants…problem solved.
