Big Ten bound?

Why don't we just get a ruler, and draw a line right down the middle of America, and have two big conferences, the East Coast Conference vs. the West Coast Conference. That is how ridiculous this crap is sounding to me. Or, we can draw it across and have the Upper and Lower Conferences, perhaps nickname them The Cold vs. The Hot.

You are right.....the whole conference thing is ridiculous. Probably the most disarranged part of college football. The whole idea that we have a P5, a P6 and independents all in one division is all screwed up. Especially when within the P5 we can't even seem to be real competitive because there are the have's and the have nots. The NCAA needs to develop a recognized championship within Div 1 and it needs to be done separate of the ridiculousness of the conferences. Why build a playoff around the most disarranged part of College football.

Keeping up with the Joneses.

In college football there's a Power 5 but more accurately there's a Power 3 and a Titan 2. when it comes to TV Revenue it's basically a cold war arms race between the Big Ten and the SEC. The Big 12, ACC, and Pac-12 have nothing that can compare when it comes to the money raked in by the BTN and SEC network.

The B1G and SEC contracts are offsetting so essentially as soon as one of us negotiates a bigger payday then in a couple years the other conference negotiates and even larger payout. And that cycle just keeps flip-flopping back and forth making a larger and larger disparity between the other three conferences.

So if either conference goes to 16 teams it practically forces the hand of the other to also go to 16 teams. Two extra teams means a lot more inventory to sell to ESPN or Fox, especially if that inventory includes big names like Texas, Oklahoma, or Notre Dame.

Think of it like phone company monopolies. If T-Mobile and Sprint finalized their merger you can be sure that AT&T and Verizon will respond so they don't fall behind the market.

This.

I think that B1G wants Texas, OU, and ND, so that the conference is an NFL-style league. They leave the NCAA and negotiate their own mega media deals.

It’s coming.

If be for it all day. Getting ready to move to Dallas. Would love the opportunity to see the Big Red play close to me

OK the BIG needs to pick up 13 more teams, so we can have 3 divisions of 9 teams Yep, 36 teams...4 divisions. Maybe we'll get a team in the CFB playoffs.
Id say B1G may as well as expand to 20 teams with four 5 team divisions. Each team plays every team in their division and all five teams in another division. That way every team in a division plays the same conference schedule. Mini playoff at end of yr with the 4 Div winners. Rotate the divisions each plays every yr so every team plays everybody else in three year cycles. Basically what NFL does. Key is to have Nebraska div look something like:
Neb
Illinois
Iowa
Minnesota
Northwestern

That would be very winnable for the Huskers most years. Boom! If P5 realigns and conferences go to same model, there may be 4 superconferences that do this. New playoff system could have those 16 div winners being seeded and playing the playoff games going forward or you could have the conference themselves having their smaller playoffs to whittle it down to their 4 champions. Then those four teams play at EOY for a CFP Championship.

It’s ludicrous that Div 1 football chooses its champion now with a CFP that only includes 2.5% of the teams ( something like that), while every other sport has a playoff that usually has no less than 18% of the teams. It just isn’t a fair system....especially when every other sport has a better criteria for actually having teams in their playoffs, typically by having to win their CC.

The whole college football deal is getting ready to turn into the NFL Jr. and I don't like it at all.

When that happens I'll start following FCS and D2 a lot more.
No kidding and the race to get there is led by the social engineering company known as ESPN

One problem is the Texas and Oklahoma state legislators/politicians. Close to half the funds going to public universities comes from the state. We have an idiot legislator in Texas who filed a bill which would withhold money from UT and TAMU if they don't regularly schedule a football game between them. Won't go anywhere but you get the point. In Texas you have a lot of TTU & Baylor grads. If one happens to be in an influential position (think Ann Richards and Baylor to the Big 12 over other schools), you could have a real problem with politicians mudding the water. Never thought they'd let TAMU leave the Big 12 so who knows (apparently TAMU had a lot of political pull). UT certainly has lots of clout politically. Splitting OU/OSU is another mine field. All of this will take critical prep work to make it happen.

We have no problem unless this kind of expansion occurs. We have absolutely nothing in common with the Okies and Texicans. They live in a totally different planet. We would be better served by going after hapless Kansas and Missouri at least they border with the B1G

But Do you REALLY think anyone outside the top 4-5 have a legit shot at the NC?

Ugh! Worst. Idea. Ever. Why do you hate college football?

Not sure that the tv contracts are going to keep getting richer. Cord cutting and ala cart purchasing of streamed services may cut down the number of screens and viewers. Beyond my knowledge base to understand it all but I would bet that it will still be important to have more teams under your conference umbrella.
