I hope to visit it when it arrives/departs Kansas City in July. It is the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. Checkout its schedule/location this summer.

seen it at the CWS home plate. its impressive every time it comes. will be stopping in Omaha at the Durham museum. i think it should come in over the omaha sub right down next to i80. if you want to see it while moving you'll need to be in west omaha to fremont. 192nd & blondo (old lincoln highway side of tracks) will be the last place once it reaches omaha that its easy to see at track level. also its the first time its going on foreign rails since it was built.

PS. remember to stay back 25ft if your catching it on the mainlines.

UP only owns one line in the tip there. the lines to the south would not host 4014 as they are not mainline routes which up usually requires mainly for insurance purposes.

Yeah it's mostly BNSF through Amarillo, but my goodness, do we have a bunch of traffic coming from and going through KC. The early architecture in downtown Amarillo is quite similar to old Kansas City - the cities were closely linked back in the day due to rail.

UP does have trackage rights in Amarillo thru the mergers over the year, but they would never be allowed to run steam over another railroads tracks. some of that is pride, some is insurance, some is technical (steam has special handling issues and could jam up a line). only reason they are going east is the pending merger with ns.

Sounds like you are in the industry! My grandad retired as national sales manager for Missouri Pacific Railroad in the early 1980s. He started out as a clerk in their Nashville offices when he was a teenager! Spent time in Cincy, Amarillo, Winston-Salem, Springfield Mo, and finally Indianapolis, where he retired.
