Big 10 Refs

Nope, full time would not change a thing UNLESS the refs were INDEPENDENT of each conference, hired by and reviewed by and independent company.

Until and unless the refs become separate from the conferences, full or part time won't matter, you will still have bias.

The key is removal from the conferences.

Referee: Jeffrey Servinski
Umpire: Ryan McClellan
Linesman: Ryan MacDonald
Line judge: Mark Bennett
Back judge: Dennis Morris
Field judge: Larry Neal, Jr.
Side judge: Steven Verbridge
Center judge: Anthony Romano

Let's name the refs that made the bad calls.

The no call against OSU coach for coming on field and simulating throwing his headphone: Linesman/Line Judge and Referee. Rhule was penalized for less against Purdue.

The no-call helmet hold by OSU #65 against NU #10: The Umpire

The no-call jersey hold by OSU #65 against NU #10: Umpire

OSU Defensive #10 Jersey hold against NU #18, no-call: Side Judge

Offensive Pass Interference against NU#4: Flag thrown by Side Judge

Offensive Pass Interference in end zone against NU#18: Side Judge

No Pass interference against OSU #3 on NU #17: Field Judge/back Judge

The bad ball spot on NU #21 run over scrimmage line: Line Judge/Down Judge

My listing of who made the call on officiating is based on the video and the position responsibilities. They could be wrong.
But, This officiating group are either incompetent, blind, out of position, or biased against NU!

"Arvell Reese targeting suspension vacated after Ohio State files Big Ten appeal

The Big Ten went to the NCAA Football Secretary Rules Editor, and, after review, Reese’s tackle and forced fumble on Nebraska wide receiver Jahmal Banks weren’t deemed as targeting, per an Ohio State spokesperson."

"The B1G and their big-program-protecting zebras finally got called out on a national level after another perversion of unbiased refereeing to where the league actually felt the pressure…and apologized for one of their multiple egregious and likely very intentional “errors”.
Obviously the B1G and OSU don't have to follow the rules for targeting!!!?

"Arguably the most controversial rule in all of sports is college football's rule of targeting. The rule of targeting is defined by the elements below:

  • If the player leaves their feet to launch themselves at an opponent
  • If the player crouches before making a tackle to create maximum force
  • If the player leads with their helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact the head or neck area of an opposing player
  • If the player lowers their head before making a tackle and makes forcible contact with the crown of the helmet
When targeting is called on the field, it comes from dirty hits from the game and protects players from concussions and other injuries. Unfortunately, college football has a targeting problem and it's not with the players, it's with the enforcement."

"By rule, that is targeting because the defender led with his shoulder and made contact with the head and neck of the wide receiver."
Bill Corollo, is the head of B1G officiating.

I hate the targeting call. It puts all the responsibility on the defensive player. If the defender aims at the midsection, and the offensive player lowers his head .....

And then, to have this clear violation of the rules be overturned.

Why didn’t we challenge this one?
I'm not sure if anyone answered you or not but it was inside of two minutes so you cannot challenge there needs to be a booth review. I am not sure why our sideline wasn't going ballistic about the spot though, I certainly was in my living room. It probably cost us thirty seconds of time and four to five plays. We could've scored a td instead of a field goal there.

Thanks... so I assume every close or scoring play should be reviewed since the teams can’t challenge? Looking at the replay it’s 100% clear it WAS a 1st down, but they didn’t review. What a freaken hose job because a TD might well have won that game. Proof positive imo showing how Big 10 officials really do take care of.... OSU.

5 out of 10 of the worst officiating calls this college football season include B1G Ten officials. I'd say it's time to start demoting these piss poor goons.

To set the record straight, after watching this, HC Day never threw his head set.

He kept it in his hand the whole time.

Temper tantrum yes, head set throw, no.

Big Ten refs, what to do?

Well doing nothing won't work, nor will "speaking out".

So, the only thing that I can think of is to compose more film clips like poster Bean above of the absolute horrible missed calls against DONU by the BIG refs.

Take all of that information, get a really good lawyer specializing in brand and market law and sue the Big for the impact of the refs decisions on DONU:
-losing games they should not
-negative brand performance related to losing
-missing a bowl game and impact on brand marketing
-etc.

Let's face it, the only thing that makes the world make changes is MONEY.

We may never see any money, but the suit and the threat of financial loss might just make the BIG look at changing refs and going to an independent ref model, who knows, beats doing nothing.

As a practical matter once you sue, then the defendant has the ability to pursue "discovery" on you. So the B1G will send their better-than-Nebraska lawyers to snoop around on the AD office, football offices, and the video production offices looking for whatever for months on end. They'll probably find an email where someone says "hey don't include the video clips of bad calls that benefit Nebraska".

At that point the lawsuit will be quietly withdrawn, and the Nebraska AD will have to fly to Indianapolis once a month to kiss the B1G commissioner's rear end.

On the contrary, since this a brand defense suit, not a murder trail, there is little to fear from discovery.

So, the BiG ten finds that there were times when penalties were not called against DONU when they should have been; just more evidence of incompetence of the officials: point DONU.

BIG Ten finds deliberate calls in favor of DONU; again more points in favor of DONU, that is that officiating is corrupt and as such is damaging the DONU brand; point DONU.

Again, remember the end point of the suit is not necessarily to win buckets of of money, it is to THREATEN to win buckets of money, and by so doing to force the BIG Ten into change of how officials are hired, graded and fired. Ideally going to independent officials through college football.

The only thing that forces change in college football is MONEY, that is absolutely clear, so letters from HCMR, our AD, fans, or any other form of "protest" will do NOTHING.

ONLY when there is skin in the game will the powers that be act in any different form.
