Big 10 Refs

I didn't turn on the game until the very end of the 3rd quarter and in the time I watched I saw at least 5 holds, a false start, and an offsides for OSU that weren't called. Removing the targetting call (which you have to make) OSU had 2 penalties for 21 yards, which is absolute horse hockey.
The B1G is a preeminent conference and they hire officials that are just not fit for the job. The B1G has become a laughing stock known for poor officiating.

The tools are in place. They have 'booth' refs; why can't they be used to call down when 'questionable' calls are made or missed?

What can Nebraska do, realistically, to make the B1G and its refs respect us more? I mean it’s very obvious that they either intentionally handicapping Nebraska, or willfully ignoring the issues. Sending replays after games obviously doesn’t work.

Scheduling issues, referee decisions, 2020, tv times, station selections and others just make it seem like they are intentionally doing it.
I've suggested tasking the NU math department with doing a statistical analysis of each Big 10 team's penalty distributions since we joined the league.

Our reporters need to start asking league officials for answers, make noise on X, put actual pressure on the conference to address the issue. Something. Anything.

There's got to be accountability for missed or bad calls! Penalties need to be reviewable! OSU (sucks) had most of the officials on their side for this game. We need to start publishing the names of the officials that make bad calls. The linesman or side judge, for one, should have his pay docked for making a flagrant 7-foot error in where the ball should have been placed. I'd like to see a high level shot of where the official was when the penalty occurred to see where were they looking. If they missed the call because they were looking at someone else or if they had a clear vies and still didn't call it, then dock their pay.

Referee: Jeffrey Servinski
Umpire: Ryan McClellan
Linesman: Ryan MacDonald
Line judge: Mark Bennett
Back judge: Dennis Morris
Field judge: Larry Neal, Jr.
Side judge: Steven Verbridge
Center judge: Anthony Roman

The side judge made the offensive pass interference call in the endzone. At least he had a big S on the back of his jersey.

This should have been reviewable!

Not that it will matter but there has to be a way for this to be reported to the B1G. Some of those are pretty egregious. The no call on the hold against Barney late in the 4th was pretty clear and it definitely impacted his ability to go get the ball. If we had a more experienced WR coach maybe he could be teaching them how to sell the holds more, idk. I'm just tired of horrible officiating screwing us. They say that officiating doesn't cost a team a game, and IDK if that is true because we never have a game without bad officiating.

I can’t believe that the OSU fans were complaining about the obvious targeting
It’s because they don’t know the rule. Targeting has different scenarios. The color commentators don’t know the difference, and fans usually don’t. I was surprised the call was upheld, even though it was a clear infraction.

They need to get rid of the ejection and potential 1/2 game suspension next game. I have also never seen the offensive player called for a penalty when they lead with the crown of the helmet, but there is language in the rulebook about that too.

Agree and I don’t like targeting either but that was a headshot and what has been typically called against us. If anything it should be changed to a unsportsmanlike conduct/unnecessary roughness type penalty, and no ejection unless it’s egregious in my view also.

Think we need a separate NIL fund for college football referees. Maybe it could stand for "Not Interested in Losing." These guys are either incompetent, or they're on the take. Watch the Adam Carriker video. Gets really interesting around 16:00 minutes in.

https://www.si.com/college/nebraska...ucial-november-stretch-ucla-bruins-matt-rhule

We have dedicated USC Trojan fans posting how corrupt the officiating is, how every call goes Ohio State's way, how the refs seem determined to harm Nebraska and protect OSU for the playoff. Dedicated Penn State fans chime in with similar sentiments. Multiple others on X, not Nebraska fans at all, commenting on seeing what might be the most horrid spot in the history of football.

Is it true that when Nebraska is on the road our league opponents have only been called for offensive holding on a pass play three times since we joined? Forgive me, but this is the Rigged Ten. No other P5 team has ever gone 21 games without a conference opponent being called for holding on a pass play.

The refs get really angry when you suggest that they're incompetent. The only alternative I can see is that they're openly corrupt. You couldn't possibly be doing your job this badly and be competent. So, what's the buy-in to get an honest game? What is their price?

Loved the video and the still pictures Carriker included documenting all of this. We should have a media team assembling packages like this every week. Want it to stop? Point at it directly and frequently. If they're corrupt, make 'em famous.

I'm kind of joking, but I'm kind of not.... now that we have no cap on assistants and analysts and such, I kind of feel like we could benefit from having a person whose only job is to monitor the game from the booth, and tell Rhule when to challenge a call or that a timeout should be called to eliminate any excuse from the B1G that the replay center didn't have time to notice an incorrect call and fix it.

Some of these reviewable bad calls and no-calls and now bad spots have literally cost us games. The financial impact of being 7-1 right now instead of 5-3 would pay for that position. Some of these could and should have been overturned.

Like, it sounds like an absurd over the top idea, but..... is it, really?

I'm sure there's a handful of people right here on this board who could competently do this job, and would take their pay in the form of booth access and unlimited Runzas and Valentinos.

"Amazingly, the Ohio State offense was not called for a single penalty. Please allow a brief rant on the officiating. How hard is it to spot the ball? Emmett Johnson had a first down by nearly two yards at the end of the first half and the ball was marked a yard short costing the Huskers at least 18 seconds off the clock. Then in the third quarter after Hartzog’s pick, on third and goal Jaylen Lloyd got inside the 1-yard line and the ball was marked back at the two. The play sent in was based on the ball at the one and Dante Dowdell came up less than a yard short on fourth down. The offensive interference calls were almost criminal and Buckeye coach Ryan Day slams his headset to the ground and touches an official and gets a sideline warning. Someone far more objective than me might assume that the Big Ten was trying to ensure that the Buckeyes make the playoffs and their officials ruled accordingly. But it’s not a one-game thing. The refs are bad every week."

It is sad the referees are now impacting the game instead of the players! I didn't realize the no holding calls for 21 games on our road opponents! Sad commentary on officiating!
This needs to be fixed. With all the money in college football and the importance of winning with the playoffs it is imperative we have competent people calling the games!
GBR
