The B1G is a preeminent conference and they hire officials that are just not fit for the job. The B1G has become a laughing stock known for poor officiating.I didn't turn on the game until the very end of the 3rd quarter and in the time I watched I saw at least 5 holds, a false start, and an offsides for OSU that weren't called. Removing the targetting call (which you have to make) OSU had 2 penalties for 21 yards, which is absolute horse hockey.
I've suggested tasking the NU math department with doing a statistical analysis of each Big 10 team's penalty distributions since we joined the league. What can Nebraska do, realistically, to make the B1G and its refs respect us more? I mean it’s very obvious that they either intentionally handicapping Nebraska, or willfully ignoring the issues. Sending replays after games obviously doesn’t work.
Scheduling issues, referee decisions, 2020, tv times, station selections and others just make it seem like they are intentionally doing it.
There's got to be accountability for missed or bad calls! Penalties need to be reviewable! OSU (sucks) had most of the officials on their side for this game. We need to start publishing the names of the officials that make bad calls. The linesman or side judge, for one, should have his pay docked for making a flagrant 7-foot error in where the ball should have been placed. I'd like to see a high level shot of where the official was when the penalty occurred to see where were they looking. If they missed the call because they were looking at someone else or if they had a clear vies and still didn't call it, then dock their pay.
Referee: Jeffrey Servinski
Umpire: Ryan McClellan
Linesman: Ryan MacDonald
Line judge: Mark Bennett
Back judge: Dennis Morris
Field judge: Larry Neal, Jr.
Side judge: Steven Verbridge
Center judge: Anthony Roman
The side judge made the offensive pass interference call in the endzone. At least he had a big S on the back of his jersey.
This should have been reviewable!
Yeah, I hate where targeting has gone. But themselves is the rulesYea, personally I hate where we are at in football with the targeting calls and such. But that is the rule now and NU has been on the wrong side of it plenty over the years. Dude brought forearm to head and neck area of defensless player.
It’s because they don’t know the rule. Targeting has different scenarios. The color commentators don’t know the difference, and fans usually don’t. I was surprised the call was upheld, even though it was a clear infraction.I can’t believe that the OSU fans were complaining about the obvious targeting
Agree and I don’t like targeting either but that was a headshot and what has been typically called against us. If anything it should be changed to a unsportsmanlike conduct/unnecessary roughness type penalty, and no ejection unless it’s egregious in my view also. It’s because they don’t know the rule. They need to get rid of the ejection and potential 1/2 game suspension next game. I have also never seen the offensive player called for a penalty when they lead with the crown of the helmet, but there is language in the rulebook about that too.

Our reporters need to start asking league officials for answers, make noise on X, put actual pressure on the conference to address the issue. Something. Anything.
