We can make some reasonable assumptions every year. For example, we know the Big 12 is probably gonna suck again.

In 2025, the Big 12 went 12-9 against the rest of P4 during the regular season and bowls, including 4-3 versus the Big 10.

Why? Because to be the best, you have to play the best. You can win all of your games, but if it is against third rate teams, does it really mean anything?

I believe we call it Strength of Schedule. It makes a major difference on which teams are selected for the CFP.

You want to be a part of the strongest conference (because that is the teams you will play the most) so your strength of schedule makes your team more attractive to the CFP committee.

This is also where the round robin tournament would help decide the strongest conference and the strongest strength of schedule.

We benefited for a lot of years where our schedule was Oklahoma and we were bound to cruise through the season until Thanksgiving. So it's a bit hard to say this now.

The only reason there is rooting interest for conference members is the beneficial relationship for rankings and schedule strength. With an expanded playoff, this is finished. I much rather prefer the pro model, where you root against everyone in your division because it's about actual wins and losses of those teams.

it's still about the rich 8-10 programs fetching $20 million for a patch. Conferences don't matter. It's all about those rich programs, and patches. When a couple of patches can fund the entire team payroll, you know everyone else is in deep dookie.

Me? Miserable? No, I just don't follow college ball like I once did. I'm watching a lot more PGA golf though!

Yes, Indiana is in the "patch club" because of Mark Cuban. You gotta have one of those if you aren't tOSU, Michigan, Texas, or aTm.
