Bam Adebayo 83 point game

Just tell me you don’t know crap about basketball if you think this is impressive. It was pure garbage, it has zero standing with actual HOF players who see it as a farce. The sick part is the officials even worked to get the guy to the line with a dozen or more phantom calls. Apparently, they are reviewing the entire game for potential disciplinary action against the refs.

A post guy chucks up a pile of 3s, hitting under 30%. In any world that would either earn you a butt reaming from the coach, or an ass kicking in the locker room at halftime by your teammates. This clown was being gifted buckets in a rout, while every bucket Kobe hit was needed in a 2 point win. Kobe shot 60%, and only took about 18 free throws, not 43.

It was the kind of sham you might see during an exhibition.
It’s not “pure garbage “. He scored 83 points, it’s a significant feat. It’s ok to evaluate the performance within context of how it happened and come to the conclusion it isn’t as significant as other feats. But to call it pure garbage is way off the mark.

It’s not significant, unless you are impressed by a decent free throw percentage from an inside player. Years ago there was a heated battle for the scoring title, it may have involved George Gervin. Anyway, one player was considerably more popular, not just with fans, but players as well. When the less popular guy finished his game earlier with say 50 points, and popular guy need 60, the opponent became complicit in getting him to 60 by playing pathetic defense. That’s garbage. 43 free throws is garbage. There is a reason when it’s late in the game and a team is up 20 it’s called garbage time.

In any situation you are playing, and someone is trying to set a record, every competitor I know would say, ‘not against me they aren’t’. The mindset of the current NBA is weak. Can you imagine Larry Bird or Michael Jordan allowing a guy a ton of easy points to set a record?

If it’s not significant why are we talking about it on a Husker message board?

You may be right about the level of achievement, like I said it’s fine to evaluate the context of the game. I just think “pure garbage” doesn’t accurately describe a player’s performance when they scored 83 points. Hope you have a blessed day.

Because someone posted how warm and fuzzy it made them, which for fans of the traditional game of basketball is patently absurd. Look, when I see a game, and the special needs kid comes out, and his teammates do everything they can to get him the ball, and an opponent plays along to help him have his moment, that’s fine. When multimillion dollar athletes start manipulating the game to create a charitable environment for someone who could never achieve what they are trying to elevate him to, it’s garbage.

I get the point you’re trying to make, but it’s absurd. Absolutely lazy take to say 83 points is garbage.

It's because it's Miami. Miami is a
GREAT CITY, whether you like it or not. Florida is a GREAT state, whether you like it or not.

Kobe had 4 games in the 60s, 25 he scored in the 50s. Bam had one of 41, and then primarily in the low to mid 30s for his next highest 25 games. Had he not had 2 teams and 3 officials working for him, he wouldn’t have gotten out of the 50s. It’s like being impressed a guy made all his layups in warmups, or had a hot hand in a pickup game.

People question Wilt’s tally, but Wilt had some pretty impressive games prior to that. Bam knows it’s garbage, but he also knows it’s staying on the books. 20 years from now if the NBA is still in business, people will still talk about it being a fraud.

Shaq and Barkley were saying the same thing last night on the their NBA pregame show. Barkley insisted that if a player is launching threes in the fourth quarter up by 20, the opposing team would put that player on his a$$ and it would stop. Shaq agreed with Barkley’s thoughts.

They were both critical of the Wizards for their lack of effort on the defensive end.

I think you should stick to analyzing vintage NBA, you’re really good at Googling info about it. In the meantime you have said nothing to disprove scoring 83 points is a significant feat.

I’m good at knowing what’s impressive, and what’s a participation ribbon garbage accomplishment. Apparently you choose not to read comments from numerous HOF players who think it’s embarrassing for the league. Stay on the porch, pup, you apparently don’t appreciate true adult behavior and athletic integrity.

83 points isn’t garbage though. The level of impressiveness is subjective, but calling it garbage is foolish. Saying it’s garbage because other players also had high scoring games doesn’t prove anything, you’re just changing what you’re talking about. Anyway we can agree to disagree, I’m not going to keep on this.

Clueless. Just admit this is above your comprehension of a true sports accomplishment, and give it a rest.
