B1G Tournament Bracket Is Set

I still think we host a regional, but likely as a 15 or 16 seed. Supers will be tough.

Been a magical year, but we just don’t have pitching outside of 3 starters and a closer.
I’m hopeful…but will not be surprised if we don’t get one. A lot of old school southern baseball prejudice out there.

I think it will depend upon how much the committee “wants” to do something “different”….and they know a Nebraska Regional will make good money.

Let’s hope.

And you totally hit the nail on the head on our “weakness”….we have good pitching…but just not enough. 3 Starters and a Closer will take you a long ways in regular season play. But when you have to string multiple games in a tournament or you burn a couple of starters just to get through one game…..

You simply have to have solid “middle relief”….and our middle relief has been terribly spotty all year….just barely OK on best of days.

But in the end….I am nitpicking. A TOTALLY magical year. And a team that was absolutely fun to watch and you could never, ever count out of a game. And not those boring 2 to one or one to zero wins….. this team average 13 hits a game.

The other thing I love about this team is they look like your standard normal baseball team…. Solid, normal sized kids that play good defense and play the game hard…..and just flat hit the damn ball.

Not those monsters that you see on UCLA, Oregon, and a whole bunch of SEC teams.

And what is even better?….

We aren’t done yet!

On to the NCAA!

Yes... enjoyed this year a lot. :)
Yep, really good year and not done yet. Baseball is as brutal a sport as any for a fan. The Michigan game was incredibly tense and we did the things we did all year to finish that one off, but not without frustration (Ks) and dicey-ness (two line drives to close it out). Gavin kept us in the Oregon game with what I think was a very nice outing but a missed bunt RBI opportunity and an unturned DP completely (-5 run differential at least) relieved Oregon of any tension. Facing good teams always a 50-50 proposition.

So we’re 42-15(!!!) and most probably a regional host. However it goes, it’s still an opportunity and a chance to show up.

GBR!

I'm not one for excuses because when you talk about playing conditions usually both teams must face them. But in this case the Huskers got screwed, having to play until 2am Saturday then again Saturday night. Oregon played 2 on Saturday, yes, but double headers are something young players love. What the huskers had to endure, young or not, is hard on the body. Ones legs do not recover under those circumstances in a few hours. And the bat is just not as quick. I've been there, many ball players have. First shutout all season speaks for itself. You won't hear the players complain and it really will probably mean very little to the selection committee but this outcome was predictable. The conference tournament schedulers have to do better.

If you believe channel 10/11 we were picked to host a regional last Friday.

Nebraska will host the NCAA Baseball Regional. The Huskers were selected as one of sixteen opening round sites on Friday. The 64-team bracket will be announced at 11 a.m. on Monday.
