At Auburn

Got smoked today…. That’s baseball..

Get cleaned up….. take a look at your game what you could do better, Learn…get a good meal, get some rest. Come back tomorrow ready to play….

All you can do.

Unfortunately, we aren’t being treated to much tension in the Saturday and Sunday games, feels more like capitulation.

Auburn just…better….in a 3 game series…at this point in time.

Better depth with pitching….better hitters overall.

Good team

What was important…at least to me….was win at least one game in that series which was set up for total success FOR Auburn AT Auburn….who has been “outside”…since the season started.

I can’t remember a tougher schedule to start a season at Nebraska.

For us to be 5-5 at this point…early…with the level of competition we played is actually pretty exciting…for me anyway. I haven’t checked our RPI because it’s pretty meaningless this early in the season but it must be through the roof.

Our Achilles Heel has been…recently…our horrible performance with the mid week games against teams we absolutely should beat.

Omaha will give us a first look at that.

Hope we nail them!

Long season…and don’t forget….Baseball is weird.:)

GBR!

Oh, and anyone going to the game. Give me your impression on the maintenance of Hawks Field. It used to be considered the absolute Gem of the Big Ten….But I am hearing upsetting rumors that the field is in need of a heavy facelift.

If that is the case….not good!

One win was great, but 15 free passes today plus another double-digit K performance from our offense, many with the table set, is pretty tough. It’s early, yep, and many more opportunities to improve and win games, but not much spinning (or excusing) the showing of the last two days if we really think we can grow into a regional host-potential team.

Onward. GBR!

I am thinking they were intimidated by the SEC environment and not ready for the moment.
Yes….disappointing….”not there”……yet at least.

Or just tired from all the travel…

Or just over trying….

Or just flat…

Or first game they roughed up Auburn’s pitchers a bit and got overconfident.

Or…Auburn is just better than us….at least this point in the season.

What I think is positive and what folks may be missing is simply this….

In order to compete at the upper tier, we have to play that upper tier to get used to that level of competition.

A lot of BiG and “Northern Schools” don’t do that to start the season when the time is available before the conference games start and it’s much more difficult to schedule.

We are….and we are beating the Vanderbilts, the Oregon States, the Florida States and Auburn. Not regularly enough to “get there” but there is definitely momentum in that direction…especially this season start.

We played a tough schedule…..on the road. Now let’s see how we do against our bugaboo….midweek games.

It’s so early…but I like where we are headed at this point. Bodes well.

People say I “pump sunshine” too much…but I just try to look at the world through positive eyes. Was taught to me by the finest soldier I ever served under who always emphasized the positives. Which helped us all to get through the shite.

Far better, in my mind, than the opposite of gloom and doom….and much more palatable.

Keep pumping my friend. Life is too short to dwell on the negative. For our team this year, I believe they are walking through the fire and they will survive and be stronger in the end. Games like the past 2 weekends will help us evaluate what it really takes to win against the best. We competed well last weekend with regional level teams. Auburn is a title contender. It's early. Keep the faith. GBR!
