If I recall, the AAF folded because one of the owners was basically using it as a tax shield / write off. He never wanted it to be successful; just successful long enough for a payday.

I have always felt the same. With hands like that, how could he not? But, many on this board are more in the know than I am.
And injury prone near the end of his collegiate career.
If Westy was a bigger guy, he'd get some looks at TE. If you can succesfully hog up space, plus have great hands, you can make a job for yourself at TE without having breakaway speed. Quick slant routes and check downs are your best friend.
Nate Swift was as good as Westerkamp. Great hands, nearly identical college stats. And Swift had a couple inches on Westerkamp. Nate also didn't make the NFL.
XFL is likely doomed based on History of alternatives to the NFL since the USFL. If there was an obsessed billionaire who wanted to make a 10-year commitment it could work. Otherwise, all attempts are dead in the making IMO.

There is an opportunity for a new league to fill a niche, IMO. We like our gladiators to die on the field of battle, not running OOB, or sliding to avoid contact.

Good point. Ironically, they have reduced the violence in the game but it seems player violence off the field is getting worse.
I do not think that is correct. I just think it is more reported than previously. Sports writers did not used to report bad actors like they do now.
