Following Sparty's punt return, they were hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct call.
Frost mentioned that he chose to enforce the penalty on the kickoff and not the extra point.
Hmmm. What an interesting decision.
Of course, it's all water under the bridge now...but...why take the yards on the kickoff when you can't return kicks worth a damn?
Why not have Sparty's kicker attempt the 35-yard extra point that was needed to tie the game?
Again, it's too bad no one in the room pressed this point as it would have been interesting to hear Scott's answer.

if not for the bobble - likely positive yards on the KOR vs. longer PAT attempt? ... the longer PAT is appealing - especially in hindsight.

Yep, and maybe even try icing him on the PAT. I didn't know there was a choice. There was always a risk that the kick off guy could have gotten it through the end zone anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if Els told him not to try to boot it through the end zone. The 13 equates to 2 yards deep in EZ, he might have told him to go for height over trying to drive it.

MSUs kicker is 18-18 on PATs and 5-9 on FGs with 1-2 between 30-39 yards and 0-3 beyond 40 yards.

Certainly an interesting scenario to ponder.

Yes, interesting. Doesn't sound like the kicker was exactly automatic. Problem is we should have had it at the 35 easy, but we didn't. Our kick returning has been so bad, I am somewhat surprised we are not having opponents trying to force a return. Maybe we do have some kids who know they do have the option to fair catch.

Sad but true. Scott Frost seems to lack good judgment, especially in the heat of the moment and during the chaos of game day. I'm not sure that will improve with time.

Unless the opposing PK is really bad, enforcing the penalty on the kickoff in order to (very likely) get excellent field position for a game-winning drive is the right call for ~95% of FBS teams. Unfortunately, we are one of the 5% that is so ridiculously bad on kickoff returns that it almost doesn't matter from how far back the other team has to kick.

All the excellent coaches SF has been around, you’d think he would know as well as anyone the importance of special teams. It’s baffling Nebraska is this bad with them. They’ve basically cost Nebraska 3 more wins this year alone. How many losses does it take to start taking this part of the game seriously? Hell, special teams is where lesser teams can close the gap against superior teams. Stubbornness and loyalty to staff seems to be the issue. Change it, or you’ll be out with them. Can’t keep losing games this way.

What's really bad is the players know exactly what's costing them some games!! It's a credit to Chin the D keeps playing at such a high level this season because ST's have been a morale killer imo.

As it's evident that Frost disregards the importance of ST, it wouldn't surprise me to find out no one on the staff had any idea how good or bad Sparty's FG kicker was. Without that info (1-2 at the range had we taken the penalty on the XP) he made the right decision, which could be the reason why he thinks his coaches are doing great.
