Does AM Radio actually still exist? And more importantly, if it does, WHY?
For some of us, it is the only thing other than ham or SW that we can receive without something like starlink.

Yeah…you tell him AJ!!!
Not all of us live in the continental United States.![]()
Jeebus and right wing talk shows is my guess. Other than the odd sports broadcast, that’s all that I ever seem to run into on the rare occasions i’m ever on terrestrial radio.Does AM Radio actually still exist? And more importantly, if it does, WHY?
So was I --I do too. It was in the spring, and I was listening to the tractor radio in the field when the change was made.
At that time, music was played off records. Remember the story about the station management going to Kansas City to a variety of record stores to get the music they needed to launch, without raising any eyebrows.
We had the AM radio wired to the squeeze chute working cattleSo was I --
And at that time, our one tractor with a cab only had AM radio.

Yep, everything is migrating to streaming. With cell phones and "unlimited data plans," there will be further reductions in "free radio." And now us listeners are trapped into the never ending "you'll need to sign up (read "pay for") the xyz plan for this service. When it comes to profit, all of the cell phone companies will stop at nothing.Times have changed
"PPL" (Pay per Listen) is coming, I have no doubt.Yep, everything is migrating to streaming. With cell phones and "unlimited data plans," there will be further reductions in "free radio." Yep. And that will suck. Good thing prices are going down on gas, groceries, cars, electricity, and everything else."PPL" (Pay per Listen) is coming, I have no doubt.

590 AM that went dark a couple of months ago has been sold and will be back on the air pending regulatory approval. The company that has acquired them is the same company that has the Boomer stations in Omaha and a few stations in other parts of Nebraska. I do not see what format they will be broadcasting. I would assume that, since they have the rights for the Omaha market to the Husker broadcasts and the stations they now broadcast on in Omaha are not sports stations, that no matter what format they choose, the Husker programming will more than likely be on 590 in all or part of the package. That would be great for the Omaha area because coverage of the current broadcasts, point blank, sucks
If I'm not mistaken, I used to get 590AM all the way down in Amarillo. IIRC, I listened to the Arizona State game on 590 in the car in my garage when Scott Frost was QB and we got upset by ASU at Sun Devil. I could only get the signal in my car. Wasn't a great signal, but I suffered through.
