All Quarter Century Team

Reminder of how many great kickers we have had. Especially with the futility going back to with FHCSF.

Seeing Grixby under return guys reminded me of the Cotton Bowl against Auburn. In the pregame team huddle after warming up, the team was all bunched up and Grixby jumped on top of them. Looked like he just floated up there. Kid had some springs. Some tough choices for the return man category.

Who do you have?

The last 25 years includes 2000-2001, so you can probably win a ton of games with Crouch alone. But here goes...

QB Eric Crouch
RB Ameer Abdullah
RB Roy Helu
FB Andy Janovich
TE Mike McNeil
WR Kenny Bell
WR Nate Swift
WR Stanley Morgan Jr
WR Jordan Westerkamp

OL... will have to come back to this one...

DL Ndamukong Suh
DL Jared Crick
DL Adam Carriker
DL Randy Gregory

LB Lavonte David
LB Demorrio Williams
LB Barrett Ruud

LB/DB/Flex Nate Gerry

DB Prince Amukamara
DB Josh Bullocks
DB Daniel Bullocks

P/KR De'Mornay Pierson-El
K/P Alex Henery

The defensive line and linebacker groups are stellar. Can you imagine having those two for special teams in 2025?

Reasoning on some of my picks:
  • RB- I realize you could make a case for Burkhead not being the 2nd back, but his reliability can't be understated. He might not have been a guy who could always pop off the big run, but he was going to get you a minimum of 3-4 yards, even if there wasn't anything there.
  • WR- You could make a case to put Trey Palmer in here, but he only played one season. That said, he was about the only person on the offense with a pulse that season and carried our corpse to some wins, which is tough to do.
  • OL- The top three are some of the most decorated in this quarter century. The other two spots are a toss up to me. Some may suggest Jurgens, but while he finished his career strong, had a lot of bumps along the way.
  • LB- Domann may not statistically match up with some that are nominated, but is a personal favorite. A lot like David, he was just everywhere on defense.
  • DB- There are a lot of really good nominees. Baptiste might be a controversial pick, but again, was another favorite of mine to watch.
  • Returner- Again, a number of good options in this spot. Pierson-El had a great season, Ameer had some great moments. I just remember when Groce was back to return feeling like something electric was going to happen. Not on the nomination list is also Newcombe who played in this quarter century, but his best season returning was in 1997.
  • Punter- My heart wants to say Sam Foltz and I think you could make a strong case for him. In the end, I took Koch.

There's no reason to have Joe Dailey make even like a 10-deep roster.

Crouch, Lord, Taylor Martinez, Adrian Martinez, Armstrong, Ganz, Keller, Lee...even Raiola... They're are better options than Dailey.
Only reason he is on the list is due to the eligibility requirements, I'm sure. Going to say he won't receive any non-troll votes.
As for eligibility, one of two requirements must be met: making an all-conference team (no honorable mentions) or being top 10 statistically for a season or career. For the career requirement to be met, the entire career must have been played after 1999.

Joe Dailey didn't have much good playing time. His situation wasn't all his fault. He was brought in as an option QB and didn't play much his first year. And with the firing of Frankie, he was forced to be something he wasn't. A passing QB. Not his fault, but he won't get many votes. Also, too many other likely candidates for the job, like Eric Crouch.

Or, at the very least, Texas fans would not want to have another chance to watch Suh toss their entire OL and QB around (in a bowl game for another Nebraska natty).

N could actually win the B1G with this team!

It would be hard to pick Westie for me. He had the most reliable hands without question, but he wasn't a primary receiver or a 1v1 type receiver. He wasn't going to out athlete anybody. He was good in against zone but he wasn't a man beater. I would have to add Purify probably but it is a tough call.

Looking at those DBs the thing that stood out is how much we need a Hagg in this system. A smart DB who isn't scared of the run and finds himself in the right places.
