This is nice but it’s not hitting on the OPs post. We only got one first team player. UCLA had 5 first team selections. Luckily the recognized we must have had superior coaching to kick the chit out of UCLA talent.
Pitching and defense obviously did not count as much as offense production. But Huskers were under represented on the all defense team as well. For example, I can’t imagine a better 3rd base on defense than Bland, and Huskers topped the defensive stats.
Unfortunately defense isn't as flashy as a potent offense with a bunch of homeruns. But it appears like football defense wins championships, especially when that defense shuts down those homerun hitters. I believe in the 4 games with UCLA, we hit more homeruns than they did.
How does the Big Ten regular‑season champ AND tournament champ end up with ONE All–Big Ten First Teamer?
Nebraska went 23–1, beat everyone, and then beat UCLA for the title… yet:
All–Big Ten First Team: Nebraska 1, Purdue 3, Oregon 3, UCLA loaded up
All‑Tournament Team: Nebraska 4, UCLA 6 — even though Nebraska beat them AGAIN
And our Freshman of the Year didn’t even make First Team while five other freshmen did. Make it make sense.

It doesn't sound right. The only answer is some of the other teams had better players (questionable), that played for themselves. Nebraska had really good players (if not greater), but those players played for each other and the team. Each Nebraska player made the rest of the players greater.
Or you might question the integrity of the voters . . .

I really think it comes down to we have a lot of really good players that play well together, but not a lot of great players. As a team they don't have gaudy stats just good solid play all the way around. Our pitchers are our superstars and they got the honors they deserve. You have a couple players with a high hitting average, but when you look at them as a team they are mainly sitting at around .300. No really big hitting average, but across the board a team with no weak spots in the lineup and a team where the bottom of the lineup scores a lot of runs.
Stuff like that won't show up in the stats and get you end of the season individual honors, but as a team it will get you wins.
Sounds like the Twins of old. So much consistent offensive firepower and two great pitchers opponents just fail. And they have their equivalent of Jack Morris in Jordy as well.
