All B1G Baseball Teams Announced

The limited signing classes have been discussed endlessly here on this site. My question is why was this ever put in place to begin with? Did other conferences begin with these limitations and eventually lift them?

To my knowledge, this is strictly a “B1G we are super prestigious and academic conference” thing. They don’t want kids getting cut over winter break for not making a team when they signed a scholarship letter when every other conference is ok with it.
