A really good break down of the blocked punt and an indictment on the clear lack of attention paid to ST.

I mean folks wonder what all these "analysts" do... this is EXCATLY what they do. They look for cracks in the door that they can pry open.

I still hold firmly that we are close (I know some don't agree) and this attention to detail stuff can be fixed with some good leadership (Scott needs to put his big boy pants on).

And Frost has had access to a whole staff of analysts for FOUR years and here we are.

Frost is the guy who was quoted, quoted mind you as saying the special teams are "much improved" in 2021! :(.

This leadership you are looking for would have manifested itself by now if those talents were present. Frost either does not listen or does not learn from things that happen game to game, year to year.

This is the biggest problem, the reason he has four straight losing seasons and why new assistants are unlikely to overcome this issue because no matter what the assistants want to do, Frost will always have the final say so.....

how does that quote go again? "There is no hope, Texas everything...GBR"?

Hope is all we have right now. Snyder can fix the special teams...

What if I told you that special teams is the symptom not the disease? I think it goes above that. It's attention to detail. It's having a system and process then developing the culture of the program so that same focus on the process is there. I remember laughing at Bo always talking about the process, but he was right. We drill attention to detail all the time at my work.
What if I told you I agree 100%? I might love Frost but I honestly believe he should have been fired. I do understand what Trev is doing though.

Did you read the actual post? It was under 2 seconds. It's not the punters fault at all other than maybe he should have yelled at the protection team to slide over to the left.
How many things is a punter required to know? If he can't identify that the wrong punt coverage is on, then he shouldn't be punting at this level.

This is a failure across the board and the punter bears as much responsibility as anyone.

DING DING DING... The fact that Will did not notice or did not signal to the sideline is VERY VERY WRONG...

I know that being a specialist... sometimes makes you feel a little isolated from the team but this is YOUR JOB once the other 10 guys are on the field. He is not focused if he does not notice that only 1 guy is standing on his kicking leg.

Who's responsible for making sure the punt team is in sync? Seems like something the coaches should do. These things don't happen in a vacuum. We've had problems with almost every facet of ST. That's pretty indicative of a lack of preparation.

This is incorrect. The personal protector is responsible for identifying and making adjustment calls on punts. The fact that this was not called out is a complete lack of coaching. They got their marching orders, ran out on the field, and aligned as it was called by the staff. Honestly, it was as if the staff didn't know if WP or Cerni were the punter on that play as they made a call for a right-footed rugby punt.

Even if the coaches called the right protection and for some reason they misaligned, nobody on the staff recognized they were in a terrible situation. So this is still on the staff for a lack of situational awareness.

Attention to detail. Are we paying attention yet people?

I'll be very happy if Snyder or Brumfield are brought on board. This madness has to end.

If we are going all the way down to this level of expectations on the coaches, then the problem is players relying too much on the coaches because they are unable to figure out the basics of their position or unwilling to take on the responsibility. Then that would be a much bigger cultural problem.

If your stop gap is do what the coach says, then it isn't going to work. Guys need to be able to read what is out there and make an alteration. In this case WP should always have a punt protection sceme for him and should know it is completely wrong. While everyone on the line is pointing out their assignments, the Iowa guy on the left end probably knew he was getting a block before it was even snapped.

I am not even remotely... saying that it was not on the coaches (it 100% is).... .BUT I kicked and punted in college... you 100% know if your guys are not aligned correctly and you SPEAK UP. You don't kick the ball under incorrect alignment... EVER.

If they aren't coached well to begin with then it's 100% on the coaches. If you allow it then you're coaching it. We've scapegoated the players all season long for every issue yet these issues persisted for four years.

Is repped properly in practice? Are mistakes fixed and then repped correctly? I'm asking in earnest. Something stinks here.

Yep...it goes back to coaching these kids up. Ultimately, PP is responsible for making adjustments, but I get your point about others not noticing and speaking up.

That is what is so frightening about all this. How at this level did EVERYONE overlook the situation?
