Blackshirts were worn by starter in practice, they were basically hung in your locker the Monday before the first game of the season. Second teamers wore gold. It was special to the first teamers, but not a ton was made out of it otherwise.

Pelini made it a big deal by not handing them out until he felt they deserved them.

Yeah, in an effort to elevate the Blackshirt, Bo made it into something it was never meant to be.
Historically, some Blackshirt defenses were pretty good/great, some were average/less than. Same as Blackshirt players. One thing they had in common, the starters on defense wore Blackshirts.

ive said it before sometimes i think kids are pampered way to much. what incentive do they have to work for something, its already been given to them and they didnt have to accomplish anything.

Said the older generation to the younger generation for as long as humans have existed.

It's ultimately up to the older generation to listen and understand the younger folk in order to get the most out of them. If your mindset is "they have it easier than we did," you won't make for a good leader of young people.

I'm trying to remember when I lost that confidence. I think it was when Joe Dailey (who, BTW, is currently the WR coach at Boston College) ran out of bounds on forth down, short of the line to gain.

Since I started watching Nebraska football in the early 70’s, I’ve always thought how confident the team has been when taking the field. They had great coaching, training and nutrition. They walked onto the field expecting to win and the fans expected the same, every game, even the tough matchups.

I believe that very mindset is now keeping Nebraska from being able to turn the corner. Even as the struggles continue, most fans still say, “We should win this game and that game, etc.” as if the Huskers are just naturally a better team. Some call it overconfidence.

I truly believe that mindset is in the heads of many players. You play for Nebraska, you are better than your opponent and will be able to beat them with less effort. i.e. 2025 Minnesota is just one example of many in the past 10 years.

How about we act like we are Rutgers, because we essentially are. No one respects us and how about we use that to develop the “WANT TO” that I think is needed to push us back to relevance?

So sick of mediocrity.

Spoiled is putting it mildly. From 1969 through 2001 Nebraska never won less than 9 games in a season. Let alone have a losing season. I don't think there is any other school that can say they had that type of run over that period of time. The closest I can think of is probably Florida St. and they are 6-7 years behind that.

I think more when our recruiting dropped off under Solich. He could have probably made it better and work with a few more years, but we hired Steve Pederson.

You think any of the Osborne teams wouldn’t have EXPECTED to beat Ohio State every single time? Winning attitude is everything. It’s been gone a long while. Been forever since I’ve seen dudes pissed off about ANY loss. Need to somehow get that back.

Been forever since I’ve seen dudes pissed off about ANY loss. Need to somehow get that back.

This coaching staff and administrators may be the first ones in a long time that care enough to be able to get that back. I don't think the previous groups cared as much. It has taken Rhule time to get a coaching staff together that seems to want to get things done.

I just hope the players don't think they already have their bucks in the bank, and they have the attitude to want to win instead of thinking about spending their new found wealth.

He’s got to win games. He has more than enough to beat teams like Iowa, Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin, amongst others. Coaching is still HUGE. He’s been subpar in that area at best. You can’t keep getting your ass kicked by a bunch of mediocre teams.

Agreed. I think he has better coaches on staff now than what he had the first 3 years. I'm hoping that will make a difference this year. We will know more in November.

What do you suppose would happen to IU players on the sidelines who were smiling and giggling while they were getting pummeled? Would coach Cignetti smile with his hat on backwards and ignore those players? roflmao... NEVER!
