8 recruits.

You must have me confused w/someone else because you keep on talking about 'my opinion' as if you know what I'm thinking. Again you jumped into my convo w/another poster spouting this, that & the other. FYI I have zero concerns with recruiting and won't be concerned until December.
If you do not want other people in your Conversation then you need to IM.

We need to win. Bring OSU into Lincoln unbeaten with us unbeaten. This is a boat that isn't unfamiliar. WIN

Like many others, I wish we had won a few more of the recruiting battles where we were a finalist and had a higher number of commits right now.

Trying to find a silver lining, I feel like seven of the eight we have so far are very solid in their commitment. Many of the teams that have 15 or 20 players committed already are going to have to deal with multiple de-commitments prior to December. We'll have a lot less drama, and with a good season we will be in a good position to flip some people. (There, I tried.)

Friday Five: Key targets remaining on Nebraska's 2020 board
Kaden Johnson
Jackson Bratton
Omar Manning
Choe Bryant-Strother
Sevion Morrison and Marvin Scott

So if we get 3 of these 6, which seems optimistic but doable, we will have 11 or more to get during the season. With so many teams already near full, it increasingly appears to be a daunting task. I hope come December we can all marvel how things fell into place.

Is this a Joe Biden comment as you state 5 and list 6. LOL

Frost knows the guys he wants for his system. We're going to win some and lose some obviously, but I think in the current class you already see some that will be the kind of players who will be more highly rated in the future (after Frost shows what he can do with these classes).

A couple of examples:

Hutmacher - 3 stars. No doubt in my mind he's at least a 4 star. In teams that have a track record of recent success with their recruits, he's an automatic bump to 4 stars. He limited his recruiting pretty early, but a Wiscy, Oregon, and NU offer list shows quality already

Gunnerson - 3 stars. He's another guy who limited his teams to more local, but is clearly a higher level guy than a 3 star.

Others on our current list are potentially better than their rankings - a guy like Lynum is one that if we show we can take this bigger corners and work with them, will get a auto bump from us pursuing. In Lynum's case, does anyone think Frost can't ID the guys he wants in Florida?

One other thing that I think is limiting the commits right now is that we don't know where we need the most talent just yet. I'm guessing they get more aggressive when they see where things stand after Fall camp. If Duval's been as successful as people are saying, it may mean we can be super aggressive in going after highly contested and difficult to land players who are difference makers, but if not, we may need to offer and land depth at certain spots.

Winning helps the most, but I trust Frost to find, offer and land the guys he needs to turn this program around... when he does that, the recruiting services will take notice and guys like Hutmacher will be auto 4 stars in the rankings, IMO
The only problem I have is the logic that we are waiting to see who we need after fall camp. So we are not accepting commitments on the offers we have made?

I disagree with the premise that he made of "a lot of elite players aren't all that excited about coming to a place where hard work is job #1."

A lot? I guess it's all relative, but there are a TON of kids who go to programs ready to work their asses off. Are there some who don't? Of course. But that's where vetting kids is so important. You want to identify kids who are not only elite athletes, but kids who love the game and want to work hard and be great. Like you said, there are kids who just have the game come so easy to them, they really don't have to work hard (or as hard as others) to be successful in HS.

A lot of kids are just athletes. They're good at every sport they play. They play football because it's their best sport and have opportunities with it. Then they get to college, find out there are 80 other kids just as naturally talented, and aren't willing to do the things necessary to take take their games to another level. It's a lot of hard work, sacrifice and commitment and some kids aren't interested deep down to do that.

The top schools created a culture of competition and hard work. They sign four and five-star kids who choose schools like Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, etc in large part because they want to compete. They know those schools get kids into the league and play for championships. Frost is still building his program. They'll get to that point.
I think a lot of highly rated guys are interviewing schools and programs. I think Frost and company are interviewing the players. We should see quality guys that want to bring back the successful tradition. We will have to earn the top guys with on field results after that. We need to finish in the top 25 with a top 25 class.

247sports does explain their 6 for 5, fwiw: "Sevion Morrison and Marvin Scott are essentially tied for this spot. It wouldn’t be one of these lists if I didn’t cheat to get another name in here and both are essentially tied as the No. 1 running back on the board. Nebraska has hosted both for officials. Both fit the offense in the Duck-R type position or even as a straight running back. Their versatility stands out and their high-end speed is what brought Nebraska around in the first place. Morrison is set for a decision this month. We’ll see if it comes to fruition. There’s no timetable for Scott."

I don't know that it is their strategy, but I can see them going slow on some players until they see where people are with S&C and development. For the top level guys, it doesn't matter, we'll take their commitment whenever they say yes.

I was in a convo with another poster and was asked to reply about Bookie specifically. You two not knowing the context of our discussion felt free to jump in the middle and start slamming me. I'm not arguing about the merits of OU's program or rationalizing failures, I'm in a discussion with another poster which you 2 were not invited to. Feel free to leave now.

Ohhh sorry, I thought this was a public message board and you made reference to a former recruit, who was committed to Nebraska? My bad .

I only read the whole thread, but yes outside messages may have led me to misunderstand context fully. You stated your opinion (to whom you stated it in the message board is irrelevant, it's an open discussion) that Bookie started for OU because he was guaranteed a starting role, and I merely stated my opinion on how that was ridiculous. It's sorta how message boards work.

Separately, I for one am not overly concerned about our current recruiting position. I saw Frost come in like he didn't miss a beat to fill his first class very quickly. My hopes were in the 10-15 range for avg class ranking, but I feel top 20-25 may now be more realistic. That being said, kids like Cam Taylor and Adrian Martinez give me hope. Not necessarily that Can was high ranked, but that he appears to be a decent talent that can play all over the secondary.
