5-1, to 1-5

The offense disappeared too many times. It was more than just special teams. Coaching, offense, defense, and ST, way too many inconsistencies. Not really one thing, they do particularly well. Not one.
Maybe so, but as I look back over the season, the one thing that never changes is ST let us down, over and over. What we saw in Iowa City is a team that punches above its weight by eliminating stupid mistakes, especially on ST.

This is Nebraska football now. There's no identity. There is no team anymore. Athletes come and go instead of sticking with the program. NU isn't where kids dream of playing at anymore. The fire is out and all that is left are the embers. You can say whatever you want but the reality is, NU football is dead.
Still on life support.
Did make a bowl game.

I saw this elsewhere, and I assume it's accurate.

Games decided by single digits at Nebraska (last 5 coaches):

Bill Callahan 10-7
Bo Pelini 20-11
Mike Riley 7-10
Scott Frost 5-22
Matt Rhule 2-10

While it is frustrating how we seem to lose to these guys, I will cite some positives. Benhart is gone. Riley Van Poppel actually looked great last night. We get 15 more desperately needed practices with Dana. Our offensive identity is starting to emerge. EJ is starting to emerge. Jacory is a true threat. Ed Foley will be gone or reassigned. Satterfield too. I would think McGuire too and maybe even Barthel. Dylan was baptized by fire and he will grow from this season. A lot.

We will miss Nash and Ty. But this allows RVP, Jimari, Sackman, Shavers, Lenhardt (hope he stays), Princewill (hope he stays) and McGahee to step up. Excited by that. Ceyair was our best CB.

We need a big bodied WR to go to. I would not be surprised to see Fidone go (may not be the worst thing but I hope he stays).

The best thing....maybe we get moved to the western bowls/cold weather bowls and avoid an SEC team. I think we match up well with anyone in the B12 not in the playoff and just about any ACC team. Maybe his makes this a winnable bowl game.

I agree with everything you said the only thing I think might not happen is McGuire with the recruiting he is doing and if we land the big two we are in on now it may come down to keeping him and some coaching up of the coach from coach Holgorsen who is a known receiver coach. Just my :Sign2cents:

Yes, Terry could be a big add. Which is why I don't understand why Coleman is leaving. He should be wide open to play and play a lot.

Rhule has made a few mistakes. Satterfield and Foley are big ones. But I guess I just don't get the fire him stuff. My goodness have we forgotten the last 20 years?

Why the hell would Nebraska want to avoid a mid tier SEC team? There isn’t a great team in the SEC. Nebraska could play with most, even though they’d find a way to lose most.

I honestly dont care who we play in a bowl—-I would want the best opponent available because we will struggle against anyone if our offense only puts up 10 points.

Do you think we can beat Bama, L$U or Ole Miss? I mean I love the Huskers and am more optimistic than most on this board.

However, I feel we would get blown out by all 3....

Agree that staff changes are necessary. But I’m not sure we should be so quick to call certain hires (or the timeline for a termination or reassignment) a mistake. It’s easy to see the “mistake” from 10,000 feet and from the distance of watching results from certain position groups week to week. What’s harder to appreciate are the other qualities certain assistants bring to the staff or program other than responsibility over the performance of their position group. And it covers much more than recruiting. My bottom line point is that Rhule may have at least three very good reasons for not firing someone when the fans have run out of patience for a particular position group: 1) the coach my be bringing qualities to the program not apparent to the fan base; 2) the on-field results may not be as attributable to the coach as the fans like to think, no matter how much we like to draw simple, straight lines for performance; and 3) it becomes difficult to attract good coaches if they are concerned about a short fuse, especially when other issues may seem obvious to them or other coaches.
