'26 Spring Practice Thread: 26 March Coach Rhule available briefly (5-10 min), followed by OL Coach Geep Wade and 3-4 players.

I hope he’s right. I can’t say I anticipated big ten RB of the year, but I would say Emmett was more of a known quantity going into last year than the guys we have in the room now.
I saw decent play. Not every run, but fairly consistent and some really good runs. I think it boiled down to, how much better is out there compared to what we have. Was there a clear affordable difference maker?

In 2024 3-headed corp of Dowdell, EJ and Rhamir Johnson rushed for 1,473 yards
In 2025 the top 3 rushers EJ, Ives and Nelson rushed for 1,654 (w/ EJ getting almost 90% of those yards)

Could 2026 become a 2-headed combo?
EJ went from 598 yards to almost 1,500 yards in one year.

(1) Improve the O-Line
(2) Add in a dual threat QB to keep defenses off balance

I doubt Ives and Nelson repeat the jump EJ did ... but maybe they do so in combination!

If Ives can stay healthy, this might be a decent 3 headed room. While I was hoping that we could land a great RB out of the portal, this season there really wasn’t an abundance of quality backs in the portal. That’s behind us, so it’s the guys we have on the roster. I think we have the strong potential to be multifaceted on offense this year with a QB proven he can run such an offense. This will open up running lanes behind an improved offensive line. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a combined 1,500 running yards from the RBs alone with the QB adding a few hundred more.
