2023 NFL Draft

Philly already has two 1st round picks (#10 and #30). Maybe they could trade down with that 10-pick. Or up with the 30. I'm much more in favor of trading to move down than up.
I’m hoping the Packers trade down from 13, pick up a 2nd and still get their guy at 22 or so.

Maybe the Packers should give this guy a call?

LOL.

With the way QB contracts are going up and eating up such a large percentage of the teams cap space, more emphasis will be put on players on rookie deals. If the Birds can flip the #10 for a late first and a 3rd maybe that will help with the overall cap deal as they have to pay Hurts 50 mil a year now.

Hurts contract is very team friendly.

This upcoming season it’s $6.2M, $13.6M (2024) and then $21.8M (2025) followed by $31.8M (2026). So the next four years the cap hit is very below market value.

The Eagles can maneuver around the cap quite easily for the next couple of years.

It's friendly this year but the Eagles are just punting money they will owe him to later years, just like the bucs did with Brady. They owe him something like 35 mil this year and he is retired.

You can only manipulate the cap so long in the NFL before you gotta eat it.

So my question is, if Hurts is getting 50 mill how long until Mahommes holds out for more?

Understood … the bill always comes due, but you were suggesting his $50M/year salary will restrict the Eagles … Hurts contract doesn’t exceed $50M until 4 years from now, that’s literally longer than the average lifespan of an NFL player.

Yea fair point. I didn't realize how friendly his deal was early on.

As I've mentioned previously, there are 10 NFL quarterbacks making $40 million or greater. Daniel Jones is making $40 million -- and we know he's average at best. Kyler Murray is making $46 million -- and I'd take a least a half-dozen QBs before him. $50 million is simply the current market rate for a top 5 QB. It'll likely be topped within a year. It's not a scary number!

The Eagles front office is top 3 in the NFL. I have full faith in how they handle contracts and cap space. They've been masterfully managing rosters for many years now. The fact that only New England has more playoff wins than Philly since 2000 serves as evidence.

The Eagles have the 6th most cap space in the NFL currently. If nothing changed, they would drop in cap space with each year of Hurts' contract -- but so much will change over that time. Restructured contracts, players leaving as free agents, retirements, etc.

The Giants are last in the NFL in cap space. Vikings are 30th.

Reading all of the rumors and mocks ... trying to see through the smoke screens ... it seems possible CJ Stroud will be the 4th QB drafted. I find that very interesting.
