2023 MLB Thread

Phillies just took a 2 game to zip series lead in Tampa!

21-7 since June 3. Playing really well. The Braves are still the Braves -- and there's no catching ATL. But I'm liking the chances for Philadelphia to get back in the playoffs.
The phils are doing well considering Harper started the season on the IL and Turner has been a giant bust so far this year. If Turner starts hitting at his usual level they could make some noise for sure.

Turner has heated up over the past month. Still not to expectations, but much better than the start to the season.

.279 in June with 3 homers and 11 steals. And he hit one out today.

Harper has consistently been hitting right around .300 -- but his power has yet to appear. Probably not too surprising as quickly as he came back. But -- I won't be surprised if the homers come when it matters most.

Castellanos has been the best bat by far. Worthy All-Star. Otherwise, it's mostly been the youngsters contributing -- Bohm and Stott especially.

That's the thing with Philly -- they are winning without their star players doing a lot. Plenty of room to get better.

The scary thing is you can say the same about the Braves. They killed June without their best pitcher.

Random additions.

The Phillies are the first MLB team to record double-digit interleague and road winning streaks in the same season.

Kimbrel won NL reliever of the month for June. Maybe even Braves fans can give a tip of the cap for that. I like seeing a guy who has been around for a long time (14 seasons) still putting up quality numbers. 56 Ks in 35 innings -- that's awesome for the old guy!

MLB draft coming up tomorrow. A lot of talent and strategy involved. Can’t wait!
From what I've read it's a fairly deep draft but there is a decent drop off from the top 3. The Royals are projected to take a high school catcher which, as a fan, doesn't bode well for their immediate future which needs an immediate injection of talent.

Taking a high school Catcher is not a good strategy. That Virginia Catcher, if he falls, would be much better. Kid is better than Freddy Fermin right now.

I always hope the Royals do well but man do they make a lot of mistakes in the draft. They got dicked over due to new lottery system although it’s hard to feel for them because too often they aren’t even trying to be good. In the 8 spot you almost have to sit and wait to see who messes up.

They have definitely sucked at drafting, and the ones they got right they haven't been able to develop. It's a bad spot to be one of the worst teams in baseball with one of the worst farm systems.

Nice to see that the Pirates didn’t over think it. A small market team is never going to someone like Skenes in free agency. This fits with their strategy to compete immediately.

Nationals get the best overall player in Crews. No-brainer. They are going to have a top 3 outfield in baseball in a few years.

Detroit Detroits. Could have taken Langford who is really, really good. Opts for a project in Clark. Good athlete, but he’s several years away with his bat. I seen him pitch in a showcase, has a fantastic arm.

Rangers get Langford. Great pick, lucky he fell.

Twins take Jenkins. Best North Carolina prospect since Josh Hamilton. I like him more than Clark. Twins got lucky in the lottery and capitalized.

A’s pick next. They got screwed in the lottery but it’s hard to feel bad for them. Selected Wilson, a SS. Don’t know much about him but I like bigger shortstops and pedigree which he has both.

Aaaaaaand the Royals took the high school catcher, further cementing their status as a bottom dweller for the next several years :(

Yeah, don’t get it. Maybe he will be good. But Dollander was there. Total wipeout stuff, just needs some minor corrections. Or if you wanted a development pick, select that Meyer kid. At any rate, I hope the kid ends up being really good in Kansas City.

Bryce Matthews last pick in the first draft. Congratulations, Bryce, he is now an astro.
28th pick, I believe
