2020 Recruiting Board

Just got back from a business trip and added OT Alex Conn to the commitment list.

We're starting to see quite the collection of talent for the future of our OL.
Greg Austin is doing an amazing job in building depth at OL.

If the scuttle from the recruiting sites is accurate we have a good chance we continue to add to CB depth on July 2 if Josh Moten pulls the trigger.

Now, we need to get some linebackers on-board.

A shoe we have been waiting to drop for a seeming eternity dropped in the Huskers favor. DT Nash Nutmacher pulls the trigger for the Big Red.

Pay absolutely no attention to his rating (what a joke!). Nash was likely the #1 guy on our board and fills a critical position of need. Plus he is a stud wrestler (which doesn't hurt at all.)

1-2 DT Nash Hutmacher (SDHS)(NU) 3* 5.6 6-5/305/NA 4/5/19; Cole Brevard (INHS) 4* 5.8 6-4/280, Montra Edwards II (MSHS) 3* 5.5 6-3/290, Alex Huntley (SCHS) 4* 5.8 6-4/280, McKinnley Jackson (MSHS) 5* 6.1 6-3/317, Stanley McKenzie (HIHS) 3* 5.5 6-2/275, Kobe Pepe (CAHS) 3* 5.6 6-3/270, Jaedon Roberts (CTHS) 3* 5.6 6-3/280, Jamar Sekona (CAHS) 3* 5.7 6-4/295, Timothy Smith (FLHS) 4* 5.9 6-4/315, Eric Taylor (ALHS) 4* 5.8 6-5/285, Branard Wright (TXHS) 4* 5.9 6-4/285

Nebraska lands a big fish in Blaise Gunnerson. I changed his listing to OLB from DE since that is likely his destination.

Forget the rating here. Gunnerson was injured last year and should receive a huge bump once he shows he's healthy for his senior season.

IMO-Gunnerson was the #1 target on the board at this point. He projects as a pass rushing beast off the edge.

Yes! Been looking forward to this post.

Can cross off RB Reggie Love and OL Marcus Harper, both headed to Illinois. Lovie Smith is assembling a good amount of talent he'll never get to coach.
DBs RJ Mickens and Fred Davis have both now committed to Clemson. They're getting whoever they want right now.

Tough to discern top targets at this point but this is what I gather:

QB
Logan Smothers

WR
Zavier Betts
Xavier Watts
Muhsin Muhammad

RB

Deondre Jackson

OL
Turner Corcoran
Roger Rosengarten
Reece Atteberry
Jeffery Persi

DL
Nash Hutmacher
Jamar Sekona
Blaise Gunnerson
Logan Jones Iowa

LB
Antonio Doyle
Quandarrius Robinson

DB
Dontae Manning

ATH
Lawaun Powell

Would be curious to know others thoughts here.

After a flurry of activity this summer, Frost and co. will have to re-set the board for the late summer/early fall.

QB
Logan Smothers

Summary: All wrapped up here rather nicely.

WR
Zavier Betts
Xavier Watts Notre Dame
Muhsin Muhammad Texas A&M
Ajou Ajou
William Nixon
Thad Johnson
Omar Manning (JUCO)
Dominic Watt (JUCO)

Summary: Ajou Ajou appears to be down to Clemson and NU at this time. Have to hope Clemson fills up at WR before he decides. He would be a real coup as he's got a ton of upside. Huskers are in the final two for Manning. If they get him, its doubtful they also take Dominic Watt. Losing Xavier Watts hurts but now appear to be the favorite for William Nixon, who has a similar skill set. Walters will need to identify a few more prospects over the next couple months as the Huskers have needs here. Luckily there's always a lot of WR talent to go around.

RB
Marvin Scott III
Sevion Morrison
Deondre Jackson Texas A&M

Summary: Nebraska appears to be the odds on favorite for Morrison. Wouldn't rule out getting Scott too, which I'm hopeful for as he looks like a game changer. Good situation here if we land both Morrison and Scott.

OL
Turner Corcoran
Roger Rosengarten Washington
Reece Atteberry Michigan
Jeffery Persi Michigan
Alex Conn
Hayden Pauls Iowa State

Summary: Nebraska landed its top OT prospect and in turn, the headliner of their class to date in Corcoran. Alex Conn is also a really nice looking prospect for the pipeline from the 500 mile radius. Losing our top two prospects from Colorado to other schools hurts but you have to think Austin will find another 2 or 3 prospects here like they did Fritzsche last year.

DL
Nash Hutmacher
Jamar Sekona
Blaise Gunnerson
Logan Jones Iowa
Regen Terry
Kevon Billingsley Missouri

Summary: Nebraska got its probable two top prospects at Nose Tackle and Rush End, respectively. And you have to think Nebraska is the favorite to land Sekona. Looking very good here.

LB
Antonio Doyle Missouri
Quandarrius Robinson Alabama
Choe Bryant-Strother
Malik Reed Wisconsin
Devyn Curtis

Summary: Doyle and Robinson both staying home is a big blow. Curtis appears bound for Vanderbilt. It appears to be a two man race for Bryant-Strother between NU and UCLA right now. Even if NU nabs him, they need to identify a few more big targets here.

DB
Dontae Manning Oklahoma
Josh Moten Texas A&M
Tamon Lynum
Darion Green-Warren

Summary: Another area where I'm not sure of who the top prospects are on the staff's board anymore. More names will surely emerge in the coming weeks.

ATH
Lawaun Powell

Summary: Not sure where things sit with Powell as he's still uncommitted. Have to think the staff will never hurt for finding good athletes that want to play in this offense.

Overall Summary: Never really seen a summer with this many commitments. Likely a permanent state of affairs with the early signing period. Nebraska saw quite a few of its top prospects come off the board, some of whom like Watts really hurt. However, the staff has landed arguably its top prospects at 5 positions - QB, WR, OT, NT, and RE. With the way Frost and his staff recruit, it's unlikely we see any of them decommit too. I feel good about most every position on offense, especially if we land Marvin Scott at running back. You have to trust that the staff will find some dynamic receiver talent too. And I really like our OL commits. On defense, aside from the DL, I'm a little worried about LB and DB. Fortunately, Ruud is one of our best recruiters and you have to trust that they'll find good DB talent late like they did last year landing Pola Gates, Farmer, and Wright all after the season started.

Add WR William Nixon from TX to that list.

Yep forgot Nixon and Thad Johnson too. Added them in. Also added Devyn Curtis though he's likely staying home.

Would Walters be looking at someone like WR Quentin Johnston? One of the last uncommitted highly ranked players, but without a ton of offers and apparently very quiet about his recruitment. From an interview on a Longhorn site, is looking for a school with a “homey feel” and plans on majoring in business. Measurables seem to fit.

If that means Homey like this.

Then we would be good.

We may not do well.

Without anymore info than height ... 6'4" is a pretty nice starting point for a WR.
