2 year extension for Frost

Monte actually was a HC at NC State in the early 80's and acheived NC state-like results...about .500 record. That said, taking over a dynasty would've been a much easier task for the Nebraska native and he quite likely would've been quite successful, though we'll never know for certain.

I prefer to be optimistic about the future and people as well. You should try it...the game isn't nearly as fixed against us as you suppose. Sadly, my optimism as relates to NU football/staff...has been misplaced for a long time. But SF still has the ability to reach success here and vindicate my optimism about him. But, if he doesn't work out...we can find a guy that will.

Monte Kiffin was not a good HC. Great DC.

True, we've done it more often than they have...

Since 1960 the vast majority of the national titles have been won by teams either within the high talent HS states or next door to them.

Florida, California, Texas, SEC Country, and Ohio produce the most HS talent every year.

Only teams in that time period who aren't from those states or the adjacent states are:

Nebraska, Colorado, Washington, BYU. We are the only one to do it more than once.

Do you really think even a great coach like Steve Spurrier would have won the titles Osborne did in the 90's? Saban was at Michigan State.. and left. Urban went to Florida and then Ohio State (and maybe USC someday as well).

Most coaches are a bit mercenary, and if given a choice between any P5 program in the above states and Nebraska, they'll pack their bags to leave immediately.

Most Nebraskans don't harbor such defeatist/negative attitudes. (I know our HC doesn't.) They know that they face a larger burden and embrace it to help them achieve greater than "expected" success. Those that fear the added burden and run, are those we don't care about losing. Clearly our football program has outworked the Florida and Florida State programs you used as your great examples since we've won more NC's than either school despite their greater advantages.

Sure, it's true that many coaches might think a lazier way to success is to relocate to one of those schools, which not only give access to talent but also access to sunshine year round. It's a very attractive alternative to many soft people who recognize the burdens of existing in a sparsely populated Northern area. I think though, that it is just your opinion that anyone who achieved success here would run away to the South...that may be true for some, but not for those that recognize their own hard work and when they've been treated well, that's my opinion.

Not CPI ring on anything, but the first seven aren’t against world beaters. Kool aid and Buffalo Trace.

Agreed. The 2020 schedule gives us a chance to have a "Minnesota 2019" start to next season. But we have to actually beat some average teams in order to do that.

Things could get ugly early if we lose the opener against Purdue. We really need to be at least 6-1 heading into the final five games next season... anything less than that and it could be another season without a bowl game.

Don't see nothing wrong with a coach coming in for a couple of years and setting the world on fire, then leaving.... That would mean that we are winning again.
For those 2 years whopee. But of course since we know Nebraska cant average a coach like that in 1 in 5 (maybe?) of our hires we'll have 2 years of excitement in every 10 years at best. That's pretty crappy. It's not as good as Wisky has been doing or really even iowa. A pretty reckless way to manage a program and worse than it has to be.

There are times when that great coach should shut up, this is one of them. Keeping casinoes and sports gambling out of Nebraska (and chasing NE money into Iowa) is another.
Your parochial interests in gzmbling are pretty irrelevant to this discussion. And why he should have to shut up for you about football anyway isn't at all clear.

Ignorant bravado.

If we struggle next year, are you ready to give up? Would 2 more years of buyout temper that? If those answers were yes, then mission accomplished with 2 year extension.

I never give up. I'm a Husker fan for life. I have zero control over who is coaching, so I ultimately roll with it and share my opinions. That said, I do strongly believe if the current coach was not named Scott Frost, there would be many times the questioning/complaining that there is now. I don't support a coach any more or any less because of his Alma mater.

The argument I made earlier and referenced again in here is if you get a championhip-caliber coach at Nebraska they'll move on to somewhere easier to recruit to when they have the opportunity. If you're championship caliber, and not originally from Nebraska, in the modern world, why would you stay? I'm not saying we might not luck into a high caliber coach, but if we do, I don't believe he would stay anyway, so you'll be back in the pool and then each time face the same low odds of getting a decent one that we've faced since 2002, well, arguably 1997.

Is there any evidence that a championship caliber football coach would move on to somewhere else? Might happen, might not. I tend to think UNL could pay a head coach top five salary, if they needed/wanted to. Frost is top 15 as it is. Again, I think you are making your points based strongly on fear of the unknown. You can't make decisions that way -- in any manner in life, for that matter. Well, you can -- but you're allowing fear of defeat drive you then.

That's ridiculous. Being aware of the strengths and weaknesses of your competitive position is key to management success, or personal success for that matter

Look, TO was a great football coach, but a mediocre AD and a mediocre HC football coach talent scout. His opinion in hiring matters means little to many, even some of his admirers. Just because he couldn't get it done with one of his recommendations or hires, and it looks to some as questionable that it'll get done by one of his ardent disciples, does not mean it is likely it can never be done if SF fails. For crying out loud, what kind of a defeatist attitude is that?
