Steve Taylor really wasn't a very good QB. At least not as a starter. We won that game though.
However, we would have taken Steve Taylor as quarterback the last 10+ years in a heartbeat.

And probably squandered what talent he had. I disagree with hot sauce. Steve Taylor was pretty talentrd, imo
He was only talented enough to earn First Team and Third Team All-American Honors as well as Sugar Bowl MVP in 1987. After that, he could only muster Big 8 Honors and had to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Yep. He was a great athlete and a very good QB for the offense we were running at the time. If we tried to insert him in our current offense, it wouldn't go so well. We would probably end up moving him to RB or WR.
Actually he was a competent passer with excellent mobility. However he did carry the ball like a loaf of bread when scrambling/running.
He would easily start over our transfer quarterback and be a good fit for this offense in 2026.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about Taylor being a competent passer. He only completed about 45% of his passes, and that was in a running offense where the receivers and tight ends were usually wide open.
If he only completed 45% of his passes in today's offense, he would find himself either on the bench, or more likely, moved to another position because of his athleticism.
Maybe I am remembering just the great passing game against UCLA in 1987. That could be clouding my memory a bit.

He was a streaky player. He would look good, but then have bad games. Luckily they ran the ball pretty well back then.
This. He was an excellent QB except for those times that he wasn’t. For whatever reason he was hot or sometimes cold.
Well, he is pushing 60, so it would be competitive
That’s why you don’t announce a starter until the end of fall camp.
