Thanks for posting this. I always have remembered that game. Unfortunately, it did not include parts of the second quarter where each team scored a TD. My memory of that game was that I thought Rodney Allison (TT QB) was pretty good dual threat, even if didn't have the strongest arm, and thought he'd be a good model for us going forward.
I didn't realize TTech was ranked higher than us. That game was famous in TO lore in that after the game supposedly a major booster "joked" that if we hadn't won the game, TO would have been fired. Monte Kiffin moved on after that season, and it was a disappointment in that we started #1; tied LSU in opening game. Found a way to lose to Mizzou at home and ISU at Ames and got "Sooner Magic"'d at home (according to AI that was the origin of that term and that was the infamous the Hook and Ladder play and another TD off of a half back pass).
We also had to have the gimme game in Hawaii and then win this bowl game for TO to get to nine wins.

When we won in 1978 it was our ability to convert several third downs and OU getting flagged for unsportsmanlike behavior that enabled us to run out the clock. Four minute offense means FOUR minutes. Run the Ball, move the chains! Buddy Ryan says you have to do that (mixing a Houston Oilers metaphor!). We just needed to run off three minutes!
Out inability to put OU away with a conversion on third or fourth and short was our kryptonite for so many games.
