I think what you are saying is possible, even with the brutal schedule we have. With the QB and receiver talent we have, the potential is there.

I hope the new freshman TE (Jurgens?) gets healthy. Sounds like he is very athletic. He will add another receiving threat to the mix to go along with our superstar TE Jack Stoll. SF loves to throw short passes to his tight ends.
Is Jurgens not 100%?

Zac Taylor was a tough guy that got banged around quite a bit, but describing him as someone who could "run pretty well" is quite the stretch. He had -73 yards rushing in two seasons.

Maybe you meant Zac Lee?

@WestTexasHusker, can you weigh in on this?

Yes, I may be thinking more about his toughness and willingness to run rather than his ability to run.

Remarkably, as funky as Taylor Martinez's throwing motion was, he had a 59.8% career completion percentage and he could definitely run. I am quite sure that his career 59.8% is better than running QBs like TF, TG, SF and EC. I think his career passing yards are at or near the top for NU QBs.

Nobody was impressed with Taylor Martinez as a passer and yet he had a 62% completion percentage in 2012 and a 62.7% completion percentage in 2013. NU currently has 3 QBs who can pass much better than TM could. Therefore, IMHO, a 65% completion percentage seems very attainable this season.

Yes, NU has had very few QBs who could both run and pass effectively. A quick look:

Career passing percentage

1. Joe Ganz - 65.1%
2. Taylor Martinez - 59.8%
3. Turner Gill - 54%
4. Tommy Armstrong Jr. - 53.3%
5. Gerry Gdowski - 52.7%
6. Eric Crouch - 51.5%
7. Scott Frost - 51%
8. Tommie Frazier - 49.5%

Career pass efficiency rating

1. Gerry Gdowski - 175.6
2. Joe Ganz - 157.4
3. Turner Gill - 140.1
4. Tommie Frazier - 138.1
5. Taylor Martinez - 136.3
6. Scott Frost - 128.8
7. Tommy Armstrong Jr. - 128.3
8. Eric Crouch - 121.1

Career average yards per passing attempt

1. Gerry Gdowski - 9.6 yards
2. Joe Ganz - 8.8 yards
3. Turner Gill - 7.8 yards
4. Tommy Armstrong Jr. - 7.6 yards
5. Taylor Martinez - 7.5 yards
5. Tommie Frazier - 7.5 yards
7. Eric Crouch - 7.4 yards

I am tempering my enthusiasm until I see something from our offensive line. They will be responsible for much of our offensive efficiency this year.

Agreed. No matter how slick the the runner or passer...if he is running for his life the completion percentage won't be admirable. Quick passes (that are also accurate) may be very important early on in the new offense. That may not favor the best runner against stiff defenses.

Yup .I loved Zac Taylor what a warrior but he had cement feet when he tried to run

Not sure about passing records, but I hope Stanley hits 1K receiving yards. That's a bridge that hasn't been crossed yet.

Two things could stop this. Obviously an injury but.......he's going to get a lot of defensive attention early. With our seemingly ability to distribute to so many targets and the depth we have......distribution to him could be limited.

Great stats, and I agree with you: other than straight passing percentage and career yards, Quarterbacks whose last name begins with "G" dominate the record books. Just sayin.
