3 from Laurel @Native ? Seppo, Schroeder (well, he's actually from Belden), and 2 others I guess. I wonder if there was somebody in the late 60's or early 70's?

Where'd that town list come from?

Lexington Nebraska > Many over the years as shown above - These are the ones who come to mind quickly.

Monte Kiffen & Mick Tinglehoff > My dad was several years older, but basically they all grew up together. Mick's mother and my grandmother played pinnacle every Thursday afternoon for many years at my grandmothers house. Didn't want to get in the middle of those games. "Life and Death" :Cheer2:
I went to school with both (Monte and Mick's) nieces and nephews.

Jim Murphy Sr and Jim Jr.
Mike Mandelko - Lived around the corner from me
Jim Stuckey
Mark Holbrook - I think it was Mark

Wierd FYI - When I was early HS, my dad bought a used car. It was a red & white Ford Monarch. The interior was red everywhere. The previous owner's name on the title was Bob Devaney. I am sure it was his courtesy car.:bd:

Yeah.... I am not sure on that. Before my time. I bet they did count Matt from Belden. Their farm was actually in the Randolph district and then family opted into Laurel when open enrollment started.

My family's roots are in Falls City, which apparently sent 8 players to UNL. I don't know any other connection though, as I've never lived in NE.

Camdenton, MO, however plays against Webb City High School, the home of the great Grant Wistrom. I watched him play on our field when I was in 8th grade. He now is the head coach at Parkview High in Springfield, where I lived for a year, managaing an AT&T store. He actually came I to my store semi-frequently, and I got to assist him several times. It was pretty stinkin cool.

Was it 1968 or 1969? I watched undefeated and #1 ranked Fremont play Scottsbluff for the Big 10 conference championship. It was a cold day in Fremont. Fremont took a 6 point lead with 48 seconds left in the game. During the final 48 seconds, the Scottsbluff QB kept throwing short passes to Frosty Anderson, until they scored to tie the game.

On the extra point try, Fremont blocked the 1st and 2nd tries, but was off side both times. On the 3rd try Fremont blocked the kick again without being off side. Game ended in a tie. I believe Fremont shared the state title with Frank Solich's Lincoln High team.

Watching Frosty Anderson for those last 48 seconds was very upsetting for me and I can't seem to forget it.

:Bananalazy:
I am quite sure that Frank only coached Class A ball at Lincoln Southeast (looks like start of '68 season). He was at Omaha Holy Name the previous two years.

They played in Pinnacle Bank Arena clear back then? And, did they play 'pinochle' in the PBA?
:p

Didn't Frank coach at Westside HS as well? I very well could be thinking of another coach who left there to join Dr. Toms staff.

I do remember Frank coaching the NU freshman team for a while.

No, you are confusing him with Dan Young. Young and Solich arrived at UNL within a few years. Solich only coached at Holy Name and Southeast before he took the Freshman team job.
