Lincoln - Taylor Kissinger led five Huskers in double figures with 18 points, as Nebraska displayed a prolific offense for 40 minutes in a 96-71 women's basketball win over visiting Denver on Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Nebraska notched its third consecutive win to complete a three-game home stand and improve to 5-5 on the year, while Denver slipped to 7-4 on the season.

Kissinger, a 6-1 sophomore from Minden, Neb., knocked down four three-pointers to lead the Huskers from long range, while freshman Leigha Brown came off the bench to add 18 points and a career-high five assists.

Fellow freshman Ashtyn Veerbeek added 14 big points off the bench along with five rebounds. Sophomore center Kate Cain also contributed 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting while pitching in five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Junior wing and Colorado native Nicea Eliely scored a season-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Nebraska also got a solid all-around effort from freshman guard Sam Haiby, who scored seven points along with career highs of six rebounds and eight assists. Haiby's eight assists came without a turnover. As a team, the Huskers put together their best passing game of the season with 27 assists on 34 made baskets while committing just 11 turnovers against the Pioneers.

The impressive team effort by the Big Red offset one of the top individual performances by an opponent in Husker history. Denver point guard Samantha Romanowski erupted for a career-high 33 points on a building record 8-for-8 three-point shooting. Overall, Romanowski went 12-for-18 from the field while playing more than 39 minutes in the game.

Romanowski, who was averaging just 8.5 points per game coming into the contest, helped Denver hit 10-of-24 threes on the day, but the rest of the Pioneers were just 2-for-16.

While Romanowski went off, the Huskers silenced DU's leading scorer Lauren Loven, who came into the game averaging 17 points per contest. Loven got just two points on a pair of free throws.

Huskers Wrap Up Home Stand Against Pioneers
• Saturday’s game with Denver will feature two of the nation’s hottest three-point shooters, Taylor Kissinger (55.3%) and Denver’s Lauren Loven, who ranks eighth nationally with her 52.3 shooting percentage (41-77) from long range. Loven is averaging 4.1 made threes per game.

• Nebraska got a big performance from 6-5 center Kate Cain, who matched her season high with 16 points vs San Jose St. while grabbing a season-best 17 rebounds for her seventh career double-double and second of the season. Cain, who hit 8-of-9 shots against the Spartans, is shooting a team-best 57.7 percent from the field while averaging 9.2 points and team-bests of 7.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots.
• Freshman Ashtyn Veerbeek also earned her first career double-double against San Jose State. The 6-2 forward from Sioux Center, Iowa notched career highs with 14 points and 14 rebounds in just 17 minutes of action against the Spartans. Veerbeek is averaging 7.7 points and 7.0 rebounds on the year after averaging 10.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in just 18.0 minutes in last week’s wins over Kansas and San Jose State.
• Sophomore Taylor Kissinger recorded her second career double-double against Kansas last week with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. The 6-1 guard pitched in 17 points on 5-of-11 three-point shooting in the win over San Jose State. She averaged 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals last week and is shooting a team-best 55.3 percent (21-38) from three-point range, which ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division I through games Dec. 11.

Scouting the Denver Pioneers
• Denver comes to Lincoln with a 7-3 record after dropping a 66-64 decision at New Mexico State.
• The Pioneers have a high-powered offense averaging 83.9 points and 9.5 threes per game on 40.8 percent three-point shooting under the direction of second-year coach Jim Turgeon. Jim is the brother of Maryland men’s basketball coach Mark Turgeon, and the uncle of Husker Maddie Simon.
• DU features four players averaging in double figures led by junior Lauren Loven. The 5-7 guard from Scottsdale, Ariz., is averaging 17.0 points per game. Before going 1-for-11 from long range at New Mexico State, Loven was leading the nation in three-pointers made and three-pointers made per game. She ranked second nationally in three-point field goal percentage (.606) and was the only player in the top 15 in percentage with more than 30 makes. Despite going 1-for-11 at NMSU, and 3-for-17 in her last two games, Loven is shooting 53.2 percent (41-77) from three this year.

The Denver scouting report is enough to give us some pause! Denver is now 9-3 with a high-powered offense averaging 83.9 points and 9.5 threes per game on 40.8 percent three-point shooting. DU has four players averaging double figures, led by Junior Lauren Loven. This could be a difficult game, especially their coming off a close 66-64 loss at New Mexico State.

Husker Ladies lead 31-19 at the end of one! (with 4.6 sec left Sam Haiby runs the length of the court to score. Matt: "Sam Haiby gets to the rim more than anyone who changes Tires!"

Final Stats: (Sorry, but the Final Score was 96-71!!! :Cheer2: Courtney Smith scored the last 2 points. I don't know why the Live-Stats page showed Denver with 69 pts @ 0:00 left in Q4. I've mis-quoted the LIve-stats several times, maybe it's poor updating. i.e. Halftime stats shows 0:02 left on the clock and never gets to zero. Anyway the Official Box Score below should be correct.)

Man, I really like the line up with the four freshman and Kissinger. They play fast and mean. It is really interesting to watch the rotation evolve.
