20 years! HuskerMax Members Tribute

I knew a Merle that worked in downtown Omaha and lived in Bellevue. Was the biggest fan on the street. When he passed away I never made a connection, but now I wonder.

Although it's possible that all Merles are good people, the Merle you mention is different than our Merle. :)

I found HuskerPedia searching for Nebraska news in B1G country. Ranks right near the top as one of the greatest online discoveries I've made. Looks like I was just a bit late to the party...joining in Nov 2000.

Kudos to David Max, JHudson, the Mods, and all of the HuskerMax posters for making this an entertaining and useful site.
They do work hard to make this the best Husker site on the net.Truly appreciate all their efforts. I also thank all the posters on here for keeping this site so informative on all things Husker.GBR.

There was a time when I'd do the occasional tribute to the members of HuskerMax (Pedia). Every couple of years I'd honor the active members with year joined and post counts. Unfortunately, these statistics are no longer as readily sortable in the member list as they once were.

Fortunately, I do have some old spreadsheets that I kept to track these stats -- though again, not so easily updated nowadays. However, it does readily inform me of the active members, as of several years ago, listed by joined date.

As many of you know, HuskerMax (formerly, Huskerpedia) became a membership forum in 1999 (October 1, I believe, was the official start date). Yes, Huskerpedia existed prior to that (but I believe, minus the forums). I remember going to the original site for my Husker news long ago (I believe with adnet as the host URL?).

And since this is the offseason -- and by the time we officially reach 20 years, it will be mid-football season -- I figured now would be a good time to mention those few of us that are still around, with a start/join date of 1999. It appears that's only EIGHT members now. Well, it's possible someone will chime in and inform me otherwise (i.e. had a different name in 1999, but still here). But for now, here's the Elite Eight (a couple of these have not logged in since last year -- but I'll go ahead and assume/hope they are still active; maybe the mention will resurface them):

Alphabetically:

@alabamahusker
@Cyberbach
@fjbfour
@Husker in Spokane
@HuskerWeatherman
@mjohnson
@Pop Corn
@redmachine

:Bow: Here's to 20 years!

So at least eight of you were on this forum/site back when we were still good. That has been a while!

It is pretty amazing to ponder.

In 1999, Husker fans still mostly believed Nebraska would never not be good. And that '99 team was one of our best non-national championship teams ever. Finished #2 and #3 in the two polls. I remember reading a few years later that if the BCS calculations had been as they were a couple/few years later, Nebraska would have been in the national title game. The '99 team was loaded with NFL talent.

No way could anyone be convinced of what the next 20 years would bring.

I found HuskerPedia searching for Nebraska news
I found HuskerPedia just after getting my first PC shortly after K. State tried to break Crouch's neck, right in front of the non-seeing ref and I was talking to a girl from Kansas(she was a J-Hawks fan) and she didn't believe me about the non-call. I went looking for a photo of the play, and there it was, Crouch's helmet turned some 180 degrees. I can't say for certain that the photo was on HuskerPedia, although I believe it was, it's how I found the site. Lurked for years and finally plunked down my $20's 5 years ago.

I agree, it's the best Husker site around. Thanks for posting HWM. :thumbsup:

So true... and so sad. We had it all, and we p***ed it away.

It finally feels like we are on our way back, though there have been false alarms before. Hopefully we make it to the top.

I remember finding Huskerpedia back in 2003 when I lived in Colorado. I lurked for a while until finally joining the night after we got killed by Texas Tech in 2004. I thought that was the lowest our Huskers would ever sink and thought we'd be back to premier form soon. Boy was I wrong, but this fall will mark my 15 years on the forum. Wow, time flies!

I was here at the beginning as probably the longest lurker until I finally joined. Always read the articles and forums just kept telling myself that I left NE in 1975 and did not really have any earth-shattering related news to share so I did not join. Guilt finally caught up with me and I paid. Wish I did much sooner.

Nice write up combined with some history. What I'm always amazed at is looking at the number of paying members versus visitors. You'd think 20 bucks was 200 bucks or something with so many non paying visitors versus actual members?

Not a huge deal but I find it interesting there are so many people with nothing to say or extremely frugal or both....... :Lol:
