Taylor University has an incredible college basketball tradition that involves students losing their minds. In the Silent Night game that happens every year before finals, the fans stay quiet until the 10th point is scored.

I was in high school when Spud played at NC State. We share the same last name, so I was a Spud fan. I saw that jersey and instantly remembered sitting in the dorms watching the slam dunk contest he won when I was in college.

Though it has nothing to do with winning or losing. It's actually all about having fun before finals.

Believe me, I've done plenty of over-the-top stuff over the years. But when it turns into an outright mob scene, that's out of hand.

The original concept was cool, without a doubt.

Yes. I believe it's agreed upon before the game, and everyone is well aware of everything that takes place after the 10th point. I think Taylor has a hard time scheduling fellow NAIA teams to play on that night, so they have to go a step below NAIA to find teams willing to play. Cool tradition, no doubt, but I think it's starting to get a little out of hand. Didn't they just use to throw toilet paper on the floor? Or am I thinking of another school's tradition?
