Russell Westbrook threatens a heckling Jazz fan and his wife: 'I'll f--- you up'

Sitting here listening to Russell Westbrook "apologizing" like a little biocth. I'm sorry, had I did what he did in my job, I'd have been fired within the hour. He should be benched for the rest of this season and fined big time on top of it. Screw you Russell, you showed a complete lack of class, and should suffer the consequences. If he isn't suspended, that's just a middle finger to the fans of the game, the ones who buy the tickets and help pay the salary of these over paid Primadonna's.

So here's the thing: I have mixed feelings on situations like this because we have no idea what was actually said to the player. While it's easy to sit here and say they should just take the heckling, fan behavior has become a major problem these days. Just because you pay for a ticket does not give the right to yell racial or other offensive things. That being said, if Westbrook's account is true (and the fan pretty much verified it), I think he overreacted. It was an insult but it wasn't THAT bad.

Meh. Yeah he should have bit his tongue but that's easy for us to say. Bahe made a good point that RW is probably heckled and screwed with ever night on the road so SOMETHING out of the ordinary was probably said. Everyone has a breaking point.

If I had someone heckling me at my current job with what was reporting be said to Westbrook, I would still have my job and an "atta boy" for standing my ground.

I think social media and the fact everyone has a recordable camera has made heckeling way better for players. Can you imagine the type of crap that got hurled at Reggie Miller back in the day?

Disagree. I’m doubting people buy tickets to your job, but I guess I don’t know for sure. However, if this dude did this at my job, he get more than just an idle threat, and it would be from the people around me. Buying a ticket doesn’t allow you to act however and say whatever you want, and sometimes karma hits racist dbags in the nuts.

If all he said was something about Westbrook has to get on his knees, while insulting, is not that terrible. Unless he threw something racial out there I haven't read yet.

Not that I’m aware of. The racial crap from him is all over the internet, which is why I don’t feel bad for the guy. However, based on the arena folks talking about the footage they watched, I’m guessing there may have been more out there on video. My issue is more with Westbrook taking the brunt as just a spoiled athlete who needs to keep his mouth shut. The wife comment was obviously over the top, but had he left that out I wouldn’t give two poops about what he said to the guy.

I do agree with you that fan treatment if players is getting out of hand. I didn't think the comments reported were that bad but there is clearly more to this .

Russ loves to instigate the opposition fans on the road. He starts it before tip-off running around and shouting at the fans. Then when he scores, he acts like he just hit a Finals game winner. I would bet money that there were comments back and forth in the game before this one. I'm not excusing the fan. Security should have gotten statements from fans that were around him and filed a report with the Jazz front office.

The NBA needs to reexamine having fans so close to the benches in the name of big money. Move the fans back from the baseline and benches and give the players enough room to sit. Pay attention to how little room the guys have on the sidelines.

Agreed, and I should have said in my OP, that the fan was a douche, and should have been escorted out, and it looks like that did happen on a perma basis. RW is supposed to be a professional, and threatening to kill him and his wife, NOPE.
"I promise you. You think I'm playing? I swear to God. I swear to God. I'll f--- you up. You and your wife. I'll f--- you up. ... I promise you. [On] everything I love -- everything I love -- I promise you," Westbrook yelled from the bench. You can view the expletive-filled incident by clicking here.
I'm not okay with this, kids look up to pro athletes as role models and that to me, is not role model actions.

I went to a baseball game in Oakland, and these 4 guys kept yelling the most obscene things to the visiting teams outfield(the Marlins), things like "I ***** your mother in the arse and your dog too, other idiots were laughing, I complained to an usher, and the usher promptly walked away, we got up and moved to a completely different part of that crappy ball park, those morons should have been escorted out, but the outfielder just played his game and never gave the scumbags the satisfaction that they were looking for. RW has done this before, and I simply don't care for that kind of crap. Just my .75 cents worth.

I hear what you are saying and don't necessarily disagree, but I too, have to assume that you aren't in the lime light, where kids can see this, and emulate it. RW was wrong and should be benched and fined. I mean, a coach can get fined for criticizing the refs, but RW can say, I will EFFFF you and your wife up, and that's okay? Sorry, to me it's not okay, but, it's just my opinion. Could anyone imagine Tom Osborne saying that to fan in Colorado, okay, bad example, that would have been righteous, but still.
