Runningbacks: Primary Back or By Committee?

I have read that, my thought is that will that stick throughout the season or will one back emerge as the primary/favorite or will it stay a true committee approach?
In my opinion there will be specialization. Washington will be the scat back passing game specialist. Bell and Bryant will be the primary "running" backs. There may be a goal-line short yardage specialist as well.

Man . . . what a difference in production for those plays, though.

Yards per play
UCF = 7.4 (2nd)
NU = 5.4 (67th)

Yards per rush
UCF = 5.3 (17th)
NU = 3.5 (110th)

Yeeesh.
Yep, that kind of difference happens when comparing the #2 offense to the #67 offense. But, fans expecting that "tempo" means a lot more plays, resulting in lots more yardage, will have to settle for a few more plays instead. The "lots more yardage" will come from having more explosive plays.

I think it will be by committe. Bell, Bryant, and Washington. Ozigbo May see some action on short yardage.

I don't much like tapping backs as specialists because defenses aren't dumb. They know what each back is in there for if you have specialized them too much. It will be fascinating to see how they are used this year. It's so different from any offensive scheme I've followed over the years, but it should result in fresh players in the fourth quarter.

They might use 3-4, but I would say the top 2 will likely get about 75% of the RB carries.

UCF's top back had 122 carries, then Milton had 106. The third and fourth guys had 69 each, so your prediction might just play out. (500 total rushes for the season.) Hard to say, though, as Milton had figured out the system and how to improvise withing the system.

I guess I remember Florida with Tim Tebow. They used 3-4 different backs consistently. Most teams don't have the luxury of having that many good running backs. We do this year and I bet we use them all

The one exception to this is the third down back. In 3rd and long you are about 70% going to throw anyway. They are usually your best recieving back

A little off topic, but related: I'm excited to see the pace that the Huskers offense goes at, and to see how the substitutions work. I'm looking for 3-4 plays then a hockey "line change" where 4-6 dudes sub in at a sprint. It will be fun to watch.
