One game at a time, but a 7-0 start is looking likely. Wisconsin is looking tough, but their schedule is brutal leading up to our game.

Badgers got through the first hurdle today with great success. But yes, @Michigan and Ohio State the next two games (they do have a bye week between 'em) ... Wisconsin would be pleased to split those two games.

I wasn't giving your opinion. I can only speak for my self but thanks for being worried about who's opinion I would be giving.

A W is a W so I'll leave Evanston and be happy. Lots of things to clean up and teachable moments when it comes to ball security.

I believe our tackling however needs a lot of improvement. Way to many YAC (yards after contact) given up by our defense IMO.

Bottom line we're 4-0 and looking pretty good all things considered........

Final thoughts.

A win is a win is a win.

Nebraska is 4-0 and 1-0 in Big Ten play as they slugged it out to a sloppy road win at grassless and seemingly fanless Northwestern.

Terrell Newby set the tone early as on the third play of the game from the 50, he fumbled the ball going into the end zone.

Yep, Husker fans knew it was going to be one of those days. And it was.

It was the longest run from scrimmage all year for Nebraska. But I doubt Newby will likely remember it very fondly.

It immediately evoked memories of Niles Paul fumbling the ball off his leg against Iowa State.

Then when Ziggy fumbled into the end zone, Iowa State flashed into my mind again.

Do all of our fumbles on the end zone have to turn into touchbacks? Can’t the other team ever recover on the one yard line?

Coach Riley was asked at halftime if he had ever seen a game like that regarding the fumbles. He said, “no.” Obviously, he hasn’t watched a lot of Nebraska football over the years.

The first half was a mess. The two fumbles. Three bad snaps by Utter. A dropped pass by Moore that was critical. Armstrong missed a wide open Westerkamp in the end zone leading to a FG. Some very strange tackling issues early in the game.

But NU kept coming back. Three touchdowns off the board, they still scored a TD before the half.

Behind 10-7, Northwestern took the ball to start the second half and mounted a quick strike drive. But it was time for the Wildcats to blink. Aaron Williams intercepted a pass in the end zone to stop that drive.

Nebraska then marched 80 yards to put themselves up by 10 as they converted three impressive third downs.

The two-score lead jinx struck Nebraska again though. Helped by a good return and a personal foul penalty on the kickoff, Northwestern quickly scored. They doinked the extra point, but Nebraska’s offense needed to pick up the defense.

This is what good teams are supposed to do. The defense let the Wildcats back into the game. Could the offense answer?

The answer was a resounding yes as Jordan Westerkamp took a reverse pitch 10 yards to paydirt to cap an impressive drive.

After that, it was just hang on for the W. Nebraska did not score again but did do a nice job of gaining first downs, running the clock, and flipping the field to close out the game.

There are some nice things to talk about.

First of all, take away the missed TD pass to Westerkamp in the first half and the horrid pick 6 that was dropped by the Northwestern defender that could have given the Wildcats new life late in the game (he’ll be dreaming of that one all night long), Tommy Armstrong was otherwise tremendous. He ran for well over 100 yards and threw the ball well most of the night. Once again, he made hay throwing underneath and utilizing an array of receivers and play makers. That said, he still was able to hit Alonzo Moore deep to set up the first touchdown.

Super day for Armstrong and solid effort for OC Danny Langsdorf. Nebraska did a number of things and had a nice balance for most of the game.

Cethan Carter with his first TD catch of the year. Terrell Newby with his first TD run of the year. And of course, Westerkamp with his first TD run of career. Nice way to come home.

Nice to see Sam Cotton with a catch and a nice run after catch.

Mikale Wilbon fans finally got their wish as WIlbon gave NU a nice spark particularly in the third quarter. I was impressed that he showed good ball security. I could have see him fumbling there but Wilbon did a great job. Look for him to see more time as Bryant has probably put the ball on the ground too much for the coaches liking.

Maybe Ozigbo’s worst game. He fumbled, missed some blocks, and just seemed a bit dazed. But seriously, how long do you wait to blow the whistle when a ball carrier is stopped and is being driven backwards?

Just call Stanley Morgan “First-Down-Stanley.” Time after time, Tommy went to Morgan who came through with nice first down grabs.

Pierson-El with a nice couple of grabs in this game.

Love the Cethan Carter reverse play.

Defensively, Nathan Gerry was all over the field tonight. Kevin Maurice with 2 sacks.

Chris Jones is one of our best defenders we rarely talk about. Not hard to figure out why. He is our lockdown corner.

We still struggled to contain the edge. We will need to work on that. Hopefully, a healthier Stoltenberg will help to set the middle of the field for the edge players to do their thing.

This was a sloppy game on a sloppy field in front of a disinterested fan base. This wasn’t a pretty performance. But perhaps the most important aspect of this game for Big Red was that every time they needed to answer the call, the team did.

Now we can put the Oregon win hangover completely behind us and concentrate on going 5-0.

We can also welcome back Coach Williams to the sidelines.

Good to see Tanner Farmer back on the sidelines after his injury. Credit Corey Whitaker for doing a nice job off the bench. We’re lucky to have such a versatile player like Whitaker.

Alonzo Moore was game but finally his shoulder was too much for him to take any more punishment. Hopefully he will mend this week. Josh Kalu was also hobbled but returned to the game to pick up the game winning pick.

David Knevel wasn’t near 100% but he gutted it out. Meanwhile, Nick Gates was an absolute beast tonight. If you have a chance, re-watch the game and focus on him. He is a stud.

Okay, revenge against Northwestern . . . check.

Next up, revenge on Illinois next week. A chance to go 5-0 (2-0 in conference) heading into the off week.

Let’s get ‘er done.

Take care all.
