preception is reality !!! Glad his arrogant Michigan ass was shown the door !! I think i believe DN and his dad over what YOU think happened ***. Why are you such a mechicken fan ??

Congratulations. Given your posting history, it must have taken real effort on your part to put together this gem. It's one of your top ten worst posts. Truly a remarkable feat.

Elite academic institutions regularly admit otherwise marginal students who possess unique attributes, in order to enhance the academic and college experience for all of their students. Sometimes the "unique attribute" is unique ability in computer science or mathematics, sometimes it is unique ability in musical performance and sometimes it is unique ability in playing football. Or it could be something else. Clearly Daishon's unique attribute is his ability and potential in playing football. If I were recruiting him to Michigan, Stanford, Northwestern, Cal, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, UCLA, etc......my pitch would sound something like this:

1. Michigan (for example) is an outstanding academic institution and having a degree from Michigan will open many doors for you after your football days are over.
2. If we didn't think you could do the academic work, we wouldn't be recruiting you.
3. This is a unique academic opportunity that is being presented to you.
4. We'll support you in such a way that you'll have the greatest possible opportunity to be successful both on and off the field.

I don't think it is necessary to tell a recruit that the opportunity presented might not be available if it weren't for their football playing ability. If they asked me, "If it weren't for my abilities as a football player, would I be able to get into Michigan?", I'd give them an honest answer and then tell the player and his family, again, that if I didn't think the player could do the work, we wouldn't be recruiting them. When recruiting, it's best to avoid presenting negative information.

Exactly what I was saying only better stated.

One of the secrets of successful coaching is pushing the right buttons. What the Michigan coach said and how he said may well push the right buttons in other recruits but it nailed the wrong one for Neal and his dad.

LOL...much adieu about nothing. We got what we wanted, Michigan swooped in without having done their homework and missed...sounds like they could have gotten our legacy recruit if not for the slip up, so we just need to be happy.

Bottom line: It is national college football news that a Nebraska recruit, and his dad, felt insulted by a Michigan Asst Coach and was shown the door. THAT is what happened, right or wrong, Dashion and his dad being overly-sensitive, or right on, that is the bottom line. Coulda, woulda, shoulda doesn't mean anything right now. And, I, for one, am extremely overjoyed with the end results, both in Neal being "N" and Mechicken/Hairbaugh getting some egg on their face!! WIN=WIN!!!!

Pretty much. Michigan is going to have to do some damage control about this in some way. May have been poorly worded phrase by the Michigan coach, and taken the wrong way by Daishon and his dad, but at the end of the day, people don't really care about the particulars. They'll just see a headline about a Michigan coach being escorted out of a recruits home for being disrespectful.

very true. The whole situation, as has been painted, just looks bad for Michigan. But a much ado about nothing that makes Michigan look bad is fine by me.

Yup, spot on! That is one of the 2 bottom lines, the other being that he is :huskerflag:

When it comes to academic discussions and this school is better than this school academically, I many times scratch my head.

Does Mich or N. Dame teach a different version of the English language? Does 2+2 not equal 4 at these schools? In Accounting does debit not equal credits? Did they teach a different periodic table? Quite frankly when you go to a university, you get out of it what you put into it. Accounting is accounting, math is math, English is English and so on. Now I realize that some schools may do a better job of labs, actual application of a taught skill, etc.

As an example, my nephew is a mechanical engineer and got both his undergrad and Masters from Nebr. He interned for a company that developed the safer walls for NASCAR in partnership with UNL. So what I a trying to say that in my book, UNL is every bit as good as Mich, KU, Texas, Stanford etc. in most fields. And speaking of graduates from "so called" prestigious universities. At one time the largest business bankruptcy in the state of Nebr was run by two N. Dame graduates. So just because you went to one of these name schools, doesn't guaranty you are any smarter than anyone else or that you are better than anyone else. My two sons graduated from UNL and one is an engineer and one is an actuary and are doing just fine.

It never works to compare one or two students from one school to another as both contain smart/less smart people. However, when you look at the people as a whole that are admitted to say ND (how I hate them!) compared to NU you see as a whole, the ND students are smarter. Does that mean that all classes are taught by better people at say ND than NU? No, not always. It does mean however, that as a student you are competing against smarter people in the same classes and in order to graduate with honors or whatever, you will have to try harder/be smarter. That make sense?

NU is a good school and thanks in large part to Harvey and other "non-football" people, is getting much much better.
