And what ironic is that Mattison can't talk about it....until NSD.....and if they are smart they want this to go away fast.....real fast....and will not even touch it if asked....

:rolfl: I'm lovin' this.

People skills matter in coaching, people.

Michigan degrees are in fact not degrees that "will take you anywhere". They are quite valuable in Michigan, of course, and in Chicago, but aren't considered top 10 magical outside of there. Southern Call degrees are much the same. They mean a lot in Southern Cal, and their alumni network is worth a lot there, even more so because it is a private school.

If you are a 3.9 gpa, high test score kid, there can be a lot of value going to a more elite school, although Stanford would be waaay more valuable than Michigan (though not as valuable still as Harvard). It would be worth it for any kid that will be able to do a 3.5 or higher GPA at college to consider something like that. But if they end up at a low 3.0 or below, all they are going to be left with is the alumni network anyway, and that is only useful if he want to stay in the great lakes region.

If they are smart they will let it go....its not helping now and it will only make it linger and raise questions with future recruits.......then again Harbaugh has never been known to dodge a good 'fight'.....just ask Pete Carroll....

I imagine we'll likely see a comment from someone on the UM staff during their recruiting dinner.

I get a kick out of schools who talk about their academic standards and play games with it when it comes to their football programs. If you're going to restrict admissions based on academics and boast about it, apply it to your athletic programs while you're at it.

Good point. Few do. Are there any in Div 1 that do? I don't think so.

This is as good a reason as any to stoke up a rivalry with Michigan. I'm really happy about this.

So now we better keep beating them.

Where I grew up in Southern California a USC degree is the butt of jokes from the UC community as we often like to call it: 'its the worst degree big money can buy'.....UCLA is a far superior academic institution as is the UC system as a whole....now Stanford is very highly thought of and rightfully so....and the respect is mutual in a fun sort of way....

Anyway I suspect Mattison and Michigan will be a little more careful in the future how they phrase things in a recruits home....

Keeping this story alive is not a good move for Michigan. If I were them, I'd let it go but doubt they'll be able to help themselves. Some folks just don't get how bad it makes them look to those outside their little kingdom. It's those outside their little kingdom they should be trying to attract.

I hated Michigan before and I still do but wish to send my thanks to them for delivering us this recruit. :thankssign:
