(LOTS more information on the Game Page)

Nebraska (19-8, 10-4 Big Ten) has been playing its best basketball over the last month, winning seven of its last eight games with the only loss coming at Big Ten leader Ohio State. On Saturday, the Huskers limited Rutgers to 35 percent shooting in a 67-55 victory. James Palmer Jr. had 15 points and four assists to pace four Huskers in double figures, while Isaiah Roby posted his second double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Roby, a 6-foot-8 sophomore forward, has emerged in recent weeks, averaging 10.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game over the Huskers' last five contests.

The win over Rutgers kept the Huskers one game ahead of Michigan in fourth place in the Big Ten standings heading into the final two weeks of the season. If the Huskers can win on Tuesday, it would mark NU's first 20-win season in a decade and give NU six straight conference wins for the first time in 20 years.

SCOUTING MARYLAND

Maryland (17-10, 6-8 Big Ten) is coming off one of its best wins of the season, a 73-57 victory over Northwestern on Saturday. Sophomore Kevin Huerter led the Terrapins with 22 points and five boards to pace four Maryland players in double figures. Huerter (14.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 3.5 apg) and sophomore guard Anthony Cowan (16.2 ppg, 5.0 apg, 4.4 rpg) give Maryland a pair of playmakers who are among the best in the Big Ten.

Maryland comes into Tuesday's game with a 17-10 record and are 6-8 in Big Ten action heading into the last two weeks of the season. Coach Mark Turgeon's team has been hit by injuries, losing a pair of starters (Justin Jackson and Ivan Bender) to season-ending injuries. Despite the injuries, Maryland has been competitive behind a pair of sophomore returnees in Anthony Cowan and Kevin Huerter. Cowan has been one of the best guards in the Big Ten and averages 16.2 ppg along with 5.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. He also gets to the foul line, as he ranks among the Big Ten leaders with 169 attempts from the foul line. Huerter is a skilled forward who shoots 51 percent from the field, including 44 percent from 3-point range. On the season, he is averaging 14.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Freshman Bruno Fernando and Darryl Morsell have provided a boost to the Terrapins lineup. Fernando averages 9.4 points per game and is shooting 56 percent from the field while hauling in 6.1 rebounds per game. Morsell is at 9.1 points and 4.3 caroms per game. As a team, Maryland shoots 48 percent from the field, including 39 percent from 3-point range and paces in the conference in free throw percentage (.753).

It should be a good game; in fact, I expect the final three home games to be rocking as the team has lots to play for.
Agree it will be a good one...I am more worried about Penn State to close the season as they have played well lately although they have a tough stretch of games before playing us.

I will be catching the game on DVR with hopes of catching up to it by halftime. Have a supplier in town who wants go take us out to dinner at 530 (430 husker time) looking for Huerter to have problems all night with our length & also Jordy to have a huge game against their bigs when we aren't going small GBR

Penn State is playing well and, as you said, gets to play three ranked B1G opponents leading up to the finale against Nebraska, which could be ranked if the team takes care of business until then. First Maryland... Irregardless (;)), I like how this team takes a punch and stays on its feet.

I’m worried. Watson and Taylor will need to be as disruptive as possible in defense.

Ok, the winky smiley thingy gets you a pass on irre. Regardless, REALLY got to have that win against the PenStaters. But, don't want to lose against the turtles at the Bank either...

Here's some Pre-game 'Skinny' from another site:

"Players to watch: Bruno Fernando/Michal Cekovsky
The Huskers have concentrated this year on taking away the 3pt shot and the side effect has been some teams killing Nebraska on the inside. Fernando and Cekovsky are more than competent inside and one of them will be on the court at all time. (backup Sean Obi is available if foul trouble is an issue) How much will we counter with Copeland/Roby and how much will it be Jordy/Dube/Tanner?

Player to watch: Anthony Cowan
Talented sophomore PG Cowan is shooting over 40% from 3 but also also mastered the Melo Trimble head bob to the point he gets to the line at a James Palmer rate. Like many of his teammates he is turnover prone.

The Skinny
With Justin Jackson we're probably looking a tournament Maryland team as the future NBA player surely would have made a difference in some of those close road loses for the Terps. Without Jackson Maryland has still been formidable on the offensive end but has only kept Michigan under 70 points on the road in conference.

Offensively it will be tempting for Nebraska to look at Maryland's ability to block shots inside and the high 3pt% everyone is making against them and to go nuts chucking 3s. It will be in Nebraska's interest of Nebraska with their depth to make those Maryland guards work and attempt to draw some contact regardless of the fact that Maryland doesn't foul much. Any hit to Maryland's depth will be damaging.

Defensively the Huskers will face multiple drive/shoot options in Cowan and sniper Kevin Huerter. How much can Nebraska run those guys off the 3pt line while containing the post players of Maryland? How much can you help off of poor shooting Darryl Morsell? This is the team that Tim Miles unleashed the 1-3-1 on last winter to improbably defeat on the road. Would they really be so unprepared tonight? Nebraska should be able to augment their shooting tonight off of Maryland turnovers, especially when the crowd speeds up Maryland into mistakes. A marquee name like Maryland plus the excitement of bubble watch should bring in an electric crowd tonight.

Don't let Maryland's relatively disappointing year fool you; this is a dangerous team that is favored by computers to come in and beat us at home in a very close game. Both teams have offenses fueled by FTs so this game could certainly end up in the hands of the refs either way. While they just whooped Northwestern at home, this Maryland team seems like it's trending downward in a season full of disappointment; Nebraska seemingly has become better and better with each game it plays.

Prediction: Nebraska 78 - Maryland 71
