Isaac Copeland and James Palmer Jr. had 13 points apiece to pace four Huskers in double figures, but it was the performance of junior forward Tanner Borchardt that sparked the Huskers to a 71-62 win over Stetson Friday night.

Borchardt, who was put on scholarship a week ago, had eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in the second half, setting personal bests in all three categories, as Nebraska held Stetson (7-8) to just 36 percent shooting in the second half.

Huskers (9-5) (1-1) KenPom ranking #94
(@ 12/28/17) (#98 pre-season)

(Lots more information on Game Page)

Nebraska (9-5) looks for its third straight win following an 85-67 win over Delaware State on Dec. 22. The Huskers shot 51.7 percent from the floor against the Hornets and established season highs in both 3-pointers (13) and assists (24). James Palmer Jr. led four Huskers in double figures with 18 points, while Anton Gill and Thomas Allen came off the bench with 14 points apiece.

Gill has been playing some of his best basketball since graduating on Dec. 16. The 6-foot-3 senior averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in two games last week. He shot 52 percent from the field, including 57 percent from the 3-point line, in helping NU average 94.5 points per game in wins over UTSA and Delaware State.

A win on Friday would give NU nine non-conference wins, matching the programs highest total in six seasons, but a veteran Stetson team awaits the Huskers in its non-conference finale.

SCOUTING STETSON
Led by Coach Corey Williams, former Oklahoma State Standout, in his fifth season at Stetson, the Hatters, picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Sun Pre-season poll, are 7-7 on the season following a 74-55 loss to UCF on Dec. 20.

Stetson, which starts five seniors, were led by Senior Guard Devine Myles' 14-point effort against the UCF Knights. Myles leads the Stetson attack averaging 17.5 points per game, including 41 percent from 3-point range. Last season he averaged 16.5 ppg, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Senior point guard Angel Rivera tops the Atlantic Sun with 5.1 assists per game and has a 4.2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Three of Stetson's seven losses this season are by four points or less.

The Skinny
Stetson is a fast paced team that starts 5 seniors so while they're not a particularly good team they're slightly dangerous in the sense they could make a run at a team on a poor shooting night. While they have actually won 4 road games this year, they're just not good and haven't beaten anyone good in years. You'll see some inside scoring from freshman big man Abayomi Iyiola and starting point guard Angel Rivera will do some damage but really it's all about containing Divine Myles and Evan Taylor should be up for the task.
If nothing else this should be an entertaining game to watch as the Hatters get after it on offense. The Huskers break will be limited against this guard oriented team that doesn't turn the ball over and gets back on defense after a shot goes up. Expect this one to be over by half time and the sounds of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song to indicate that Thorir is checking into a decided game.
Prediction: Nebraska 88 - Stetson 70

Pretty sure he had us losing to Minnesota as well right? If anyone wants to make a bet that Nebraska only wins 3 more conference games I will take it.
Well, the good news is that they appear to predict UNL beating Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana. The bad news is losing every other game, which seems... oh I don't know. Unlikely?

Barring at least 2 major injuries, I think there’s probably no way Nebraska will win just 3 more games.

These type of games worry me. Students and athletes are out of school. It’s easy to not take them seriously. Distractions occur, it’s easier to take days off. The crowd won’t be very rowdy. Nebraska needs to show them that they have zero chance of winning in the first 10 minutes...and then crush accordingly. I want to see McVeigh play 7+ minutes and see Tanner, Thor, Nana, Malcolm, and Johnny the last 3 minutes.

These types of games worry me as well. A nailbiter here and I am right back where I was at the end of last season...with very little hope. If we really are better than we were a year ago which I think we are, we win easily even if we aren't at our best.
