Sioux Falls, S.D. - James Palmer Jr. had a game-high 29 points to place three Huskers in double figures, while Nebraska clamped down in the second half, as the Huskers posted a 79-56 win at the Sanford Pentagon.

The Huskers (9-2) took control with a 22-4 run over an eight and half minute span, turning a seven-point deficit into a 43-32 lead with 15:07 remaining.

Isaac Copeland Jr. had 16 points and five rebounds, while Thomas Allen came off the bench for 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, as Nebraska’s 9-2 start continued its best start since the 2010-11 campaign.

The Huskers shut down Oklahoma State (4-6) defensively, holding the Cowboys to its second-lowest output of the season. NU also limited the Cowboys to 2-of-15 from 3-point range after OSU entered the game averaging over 9.0 3-pointers per game and ranking among the national leaders in 3-point percentage at 42 percent.

Huskers Take Care Of Business Against Cowboys

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Nebraska basketball players expecting a sleepy, nonpartisan crowd for a neutral site game encountered a surprise Sunday night.

Nebraska fans, both local to Sioux Falls and those who traveled, accounted for about 95 percent of the cozy crowd of 3,800 at the 5-year-old Sanford Pentagon, and coach Tim Miles believes that may have caught his players off-guard, at first.

“I think you could see it by our body language early in the game,” Miles said, noting his players began pressing harder in an environment that resembled a high school state tournament game.

Perhaps that explains why the Huskers had a difficult time gaining separation from an Oklahoma State team that entered the game with a 4-5 record. Not only that, the Cowboys led by seven points late in the first half.

“It’s like you’re trying to break a horse and they’re chomping on the bit,” Miles said, “but not really taking it.”

Finally, a late second-half surge gave Nebraska life, and the Huskers did what good teams should do against lesser competition – they extended the lead and gave Oklahoma State no hope.

Isaac Copeland Jr., James Palmer Jr. and Glynn Watson Jr. hit 3-pointers on each of Nebraska’s final three possessions of the first half, the Huskers forced two shot-clock violations in that stretch, and they overcame their biggest deficit en route to a 79-56 victory.

“This meant a lot,” Copeland said. “This was bigger than basketball tonight. Coach Miles is from here; he didn’t talk about it much, but we all knew it was in the back of his mind he didn’t want to lose at home.”

Miles, a native of Doland, South Dakota, played with his 87-year-old mother, 92-year-old father and other family members in attendance.

Nebraska and Oklahoma State will meet for the 118th time on Sunday evening. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series, 63-54, but the teams have not met since the first round of the 2011 Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.

The Huskers are 8-2 on the season following a 94-75 victory over Creighton on Dec. 8. Nebraska used a blistering shooting performance, hitting 53 percent from the field and 14-of-27 from 3-point range, posting a 19-point win and snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Bluejays in the process. James Palmer Jr. had 30 points, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range, to pace five Huskers in double figures.

While Palmer is among the Big Ten leaders in scoring at 18.7 points per game, it has been the play of Thomas Allen and Isaiah Roby which has helped diversify the Husker attack in recent games. Allen has averaged 10.0 points per game on 60 percent shooting over the last four contests, including an 18-point effort against Creighton. Roby comes off one of his best weeks of the year, averaging 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in two contests.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA STATE
Oklahoma State is battle tested, as the Cowboys are 4-5 against one of the nation's toughest schedules. OSU has taken on Villanova, LSU, Memphis, Minnesota and Houston before Sunday's matchup with the Huskers.

The 2018-19 Cowboys are a balanced squad with four players averaging double figures, led by Cameron McGriff, who paces the team in scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg). As a team, Oklahoma State can stretch a defense, ranking 10th in 3-point percentage (.416) and lead the Big 12 in 3-pointers per game (9.1 per game). Thomas Dziagwa is among the national leaders in 3-point percentage (.534) and averages 11.9 points per game while Lindy Waters III is second on the team in scoring at 12.1 ppg and is shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc. Oklahoma State also adds Indiana transfer Curtis Jones, who becomes eligible for Sunday's game. Jones, a former top-50 recruit, played for Indiana during the 2016-17 season and the first part of 2017-18 campaign before transferring to Oklahoma State. He saw limited duty against the Huskers in Nebraska's win in Bloomington in 2016-17.

Looks like a couple of players won’t make the trip. Amir is the only one we know for sure.

Reason for playing in Sioux Falls? Player from that area on one of the two rosters?

Considering how much the Huskers rely on their starters, missing even one of them is a concern.
Yeah, I was trying to be extra positive because I know that a 4 - 5 at this point in the season doesn't necessarily mean to much but I still think our guys have the confidence factor at the moment, at least that is what I am telling myself.

Not pictured obviously it's not the ENTIRE team but no Roby, Watson, Copeland or Allen just in these pictures of a shoot around so take it for what its worth.

When you think of arranging a special, neutral site game, who doesn't think of Sioux Falls? You've got glamour, excitement, lot of potential recruits, and the weather!
