No, they won the regular season Summit title so they get an automatic bid to the NIT.
For those a bit lost ....
South Dakota State suffered a major upset loss today.
First round of the Summit League tournament ... first time the #8 seed has ever upset the #1 seed. Western Illinois came into the game with 9 wins on the season. And somehow, beat SDSU.
Personally, I'm disappointed. I wanted to see Mike Daum in the NCAA Tournament one last time.

I hear ya but, I love upsets like that. It's what makes for great games at times. What an accomplishment for them. Western Illinois will always remember this win. And, you will too.

I love upsets like that in the NCAA Tournament. Less so in the conference tournaments. Especially knowing Western Illinois isn't going anywhere unless they win the Summit tournament (still very unlikely). But I will remember this one.
is that true for all the smaller conferences too?
I am not sure if there is a conference size cutoff but I think any regular season conference winner is assured of at least an NIT bid.
