(Thanks to your son for the tip-off schuskerfan!)
According to my son his Instagram says he has committed. He only started playing basketball in the 9th grade.

LINCOLN — Nebraska has official visits scheduled soon with two graduate transfers, both big men from teams that played in the 2017 NCAA tournament.

Visiting this weekend is Duby Okeke (Doo-bee Oh-Kay-Kay), a 6-foot-8, 230-pound center from Winthrop. Arriving in the middle of next week is Hans Brase, a 6-8, 231-pound forward from Princeton.
Okeke, in 94 career games for Winthrop, averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. He set the school record for blocked shots with 165 in three years. Multiple media reports tout him as a fan favorite for his thundering dunks and high-flying rejections.

So is this guy going to be strictly a defensive specialist? 3.2 PPG at a place like Winthrop doesn't exactly have me jumping for joy. Also hard not to notice the 26% free throw percentage, how can you possibly be that bad at free throws!

A One-year One & Done Grad Transfer! A Big-body who will Block Shots, Rebound and add to post depth. Nice to have to spell Jody, giving him some rest.

Eraser and enforcer. This should help us next year, especially in practice. Not a difference maker, but someone who can back up Jordy at the 5. I'd expect that he will play around 10-12 minutes a game next year.

I still take Brase if he wants to come. We should find out in a few days.

The epitome of "role player". And there's nothing wrong with that. Like Dash said...if he can come in an play 10 or so minutes a game and hold his own on the defensive end...mission accomplished.

Definitely fills a need. And for those questioning the offensive output, who cares? We have plenty of guys happy to take his shots and just let him clean up misses and defensive lapses. I got to play one time with an eraser who was happy playing D and getting the occasional put back dunk. He was everyone's buddy!

Morrow had a better looking offensive game, and possibly a better rebounder, but I'm thinking this kid is going to be a defender that changes how people play us when he's in the game. His timing and length are scary. And one weakness Morrow had was soft finishes in close. He wasn't quite tall enough, or explosive enough to consistently dunk when really close, and that cost him on several occasions. This kid appears to not have that issue.

i think morrow was his own worst enemy sometimes.... a guy who thought he had a better dribble game then he did and multiple turnovers were the result. in all honesty, i'd almost prefer a guy like Duby to fill the "role". He's probably not gonna be out there trying to score cause he knows his place. Nu needs a tough, low post beat down enforcer and this guy def. looks the part. also, he's a one and done so he'll fit right in. :)

Just to add a little to what Lars said (and Tim, too for that matter), I'm detecting a big undercurrent of disappointment in our taking Duby (instead of Hans, say), expected to play only a defensive role; And part time at that (i.e. We Want Scorers).

The presumption seems to be that Duby amounts to just some 'Slug' out there only taking up space, spelling Jordy. Dispelling that notion, Duby is really some athlete (just watch his videos) who excels at shot-blocking, rebounding and Dunking (when he gets the chance). What was it, 165 blocked shots? And even if not blocked, contesting the shot often makes a shooter miss.

Here is something I read somewhere else that I think may hit the nail on the head:

"I think this is a really smart get. This kid is a freak athlete and does nothing but make spark plays (eye opening dunks and blocks). There are going to be games where he makes one or two of those and it starts a run for us. Talk about a spark plug, and a GREAT look in practice against Jordy."

As Bils said: Mission Accomplished!

(What was that again about Offense winning Games; Defense wins Championships? Or was it, Offense gets butts in the seats; Defense ---- Oh, never mind!)

I'm not sure anyone who considers themselves a fan of NU bball, and who ultimately wants the team to succeed could express disappointment with the Duby pickup. Geez, at this point Miles has to go with whoever will pick him. I don't think he has the option of being choosy. I watched some vids on Duby and the guy looks like a freak athlete. We don't have many of those in uniform right now so I'll take it. Fortunately for Miles, he has picked up what appear to be some pretty solid bball players as of late. Miles can sell so good for him. We'll take it.

Nothing more frustrating than a power forward/center getting cute and missing a layup instead of grabbing it with both hands and exploding through the defenders arms for the dunk +1. Looks like this guy understands that. Dunk every ball where it is possible. I think he looks like a good pickup who can give us 10-15 productive minutes a game playing defense and rebounding with a crowd pleasing power dunk every now and again.

How does he compare to Morrow or Jacobsen? Seems to me that he can compare and maybe with less offense but much better defense. Hopefully they can cancel each other out

Agree. I liked Morrows rebounding but he thought he was much better offensively than he was. Hopefully when Okeke gets a rebound he either dunks it or gets it back out to another player rather than dribble too much and get his shot blocked like Morrow did far too often. What is the breakdown of Okeke when it comes to defense? Morow was average.
