Dirks "For And Against" Article

This article is what makes me want to give Miles another year and what makes me think we will get more of the same. We aren't the only squad that is going to get better, heck almost all teams are young in basketball anymore. But Miles quit going the transfer route and started building a base with high school talent that are going to be juniors next year, I almost want to see him sink or swim with that foundation. Will he be treading water though, or actually getting somewhere in the liquid?

But here's the deal... he's recruited better than Iowa who is finishing better than him. So what's the deal?
Well...

I know people will call it bashing but I simply haven't seen anything that shows me he can actually coach at a high enough level to be more than a lower 1/3 program in the Big 10. NU got hot for a month 3 years ago. Other than that his results are worse than his two predecessors...and they were bad.

That's my thing, i'm begging for him to show me otherwise. Then we don't get into a set in overtime and just try to let our guys create who aren't better than Wisconsin. I also get we are Nebraska.

I will wager that Nebraska is over the 35% clip this year.
Its possible for sure. 33% as of right now and about as easy a closing 6 games as you'll find among any Big 10 team. You'd sure hope he could go .500 the rest of the way.

And I would like to know just how many freshman that are playing on other teams are true freshmen? I would guess that there is much more of a jump in play from a true freshman year to a true sophomore year than there is from a redshirt freshman year to a redshirt sophomore year. The majority of our key guys are only a year or two removed from high school. Miles didn't have the luxury to redshirt anyone the last couple of years. It makes a difference not getting that year to adapt to the college game and the length of the season whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

Most of those playing are likely true frosh. Redshirting is less prevalent in basketball.

Yet it's two transfer newcomers that are going to be the new blood next year.

I stated way back before the season started that I'd be happy if we finished 15 - 15, and for a while there, it appeared that we would indeed be .500 or better, only at 10 - 14 now doesn't bode so well for the Huskers making that .500 mark, even with the teams we have left to play. Every team we have left all have winning overall records. I'll be surprised if we win more than 2 games the rest of the way.

I meant 3-3 in the last 6 which is what would get him above 35%. barely

Well, that is hard to read, but the teams we have left to play, are a combined 30 - 39 in conference, but are also a combined 88 - 59 over all, we have our work cut out for us, and it's not going to be easy for the Huskers.

Cheese, I'm thinking vendetta because you have continually made threads against Miles, where you focus on the "against" not the "for" part of Dirk's article. I acknowledge Mile's deficiencies, especially on offense (he should run more set plays), but in some weird way I see losing by one in OT to Wisconsin with 22 TOs as a win and get excited when I look at our lineups for next year.

And many of those teams with no or few seniors Purdue, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland we already beat this year.

It's no coincidence the few people who constantly bag on Nebraska basketball on this message board are dual fans. It has to be a great feeling to be able to just trash one of the teams you like because you can always just cheer on a different team. It's like a circa 2016 Cubs fan who fed off the success of the Cardinals. They bagged on the Cubs for 108 years but believe them, October was one of the best days of their lives. They just don't have the same buy in.

Which leads me to the other thing...it's damn near a consensus, we all agree. In actuality, the disagreements are so miniscule I'm not sure why it's even a constant debate. No reason to constantly bag on Miles and the program. We all know. We are frustrated too, we just don't toggle over to a Creighton board and slip our hands down our pants.

YUP, there is Brazzers for that....

In terms of the Dirk article, he's spot on. I like Dirk, but he doesn't know a lot about basketball. He's not wrong here though. You can make a convincing argument either way.
