The following is a tragedy poem written by my youngest daughter for her sophomore English class. She made a bet with a classmate for the WI game before the season started…. loser had to wear the opposing team’s shirt all day (Monday following the game). I brain washed her from early on to be a Husker, even though she has never lived in the great state of Nebraska. We currently reside deep in Michigan State territory - Grand Rapids MI.
Thank you

A Stupid Bet
A stupid bet I made last year
One that brought my own worst fear:
A Wisconsin shirt, big and red
Was put on top my remorseful head.
I hadn’t thought that Nebraska could lose
But 0-5, now that was news.
I walked the halls with my head down low
Each teasing comment brought a blow.
I didn’t think my precious team
Could make me want to cry and scream.
But I lost the bet, fair and square
So head held high, I met the stares.
These people, I thought, don’t know the extent
Of how far my love for Nebraska went.
Every Saturday I faithfully cheer
I wait for a victory; it’s coming, it’s near!
If short term pain is what it takes
A few disappointments should just be cake.
I’m ready to wait for the hard work to show
Then everyone out there will know:
A true Nebraska fan will always stay strong
When all goes right, and when all goes wrong.
Here is her picture with the Wisconsin shirt on.
