I hear you and I do not disagree. I assume the coaches saw something they did not like. Only thing that makes sense.
They saw this one day before signing day after recruiting him for how long?

True but even if a couple more guys would have chose Nebraska, we still would have had room for "Ony?" (The 4 star WR/CB) that we apparently turned down.
Overall pretty good class....my only real complaint is why the TEXAS did we turn down a 4* guy at a position of need....this baffles me. Even if we thought we'd land Calvin or Johnson etc., we could have used another DB. Add to that the fact he was a 4*......"DB's are gold" yet we turn down a 4* DB who wanted to come here, we had room for, and we only got one secondary guy in this entire class??
Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable than me can explain why we wouldn't make room for another CB.....regardless of if we thought another WR was gonna sign.....
I thought he was a 4*? I could be mistaken.Who is this 4* you are talking about? Onyemaobi was a consensus 3* across all recruiting sites. DB also wasn't a major position of need and I'm not sure there was much consideration that Onyemaobi was going to play WR. I expect to have a large secondary class next year.
I was critical of the last staff for constantly not signing to the number and just over. I have to be critical of this staff for the same reason. I won't call it a blunder, but I would call it an area for improvement. One year won't make or break us doing this, but over the course of 5-7 years, if you keep doing this, you're really limiting the number of kids you have brought thru your system.
Now, with that being said, I REALLY like the players we got this year, I think this will be a really good class on the field and addressed our needs very well.

Interesting discussion on 1620 this morning. Benning and Sharp both are ok with essentially purging non-performing scholarship players like Alabama, et al. do to free up more scholarships/bigger classes each year. Looking at OSU's past two years, they have signed an entire small class more than us over that time, something like 17 kids, that's just in two years.
I would prefer to fix the problem from the other end and crack down on oversigning but that may be easier said then done.
Riley mentioned in his press conference yesterday that they would have honored Allen's scholarship when asked about the injury. Based on that, I don't see Riley going the way of Alabama, etc. Now, if the player has graduated, is still eligible, and not contributed, he might be on board with that.Interesting discussion on 1620 this morning. Posted similar thought at almost same time. There is an argument to be made that if a kid has gotten his degree and has one of two years eligibility left but has been a noncontributor that the school has met there end of the bargain and puling the scholarship instead of paying for a post graduate degree would be okay. Frankly I could get in line with that.

Thanks to all who helped clarify. Makes more sense now. I'm guessing the DB's we recruited last year must be panning out pretty well? Anyone who is more in the know, have any info on this?Coach talked yesterday in his presser about how next years class would include a large secondary class.
It was known from the start of the 2017 class and often talked about on the radio that we would take two DBs max and several of the services guys thought we would take maybe only one UNLESS we got a killer second commit (i.e. Lenoir).
Not claiming it as fact since I said I assume. They saw this one day before signing day after recruiting him for how long?
Always seemed weird to me that recruiting services can have such different rankings. You would think that all these experts have fairly similar opinions on these recruits. Overall this class has been a vast improvement over years past and based on how our 2018 targets already look it is only going to get better.
