Excited that its finally here....my daughter and I will be rooting for the USWNT of course and for England too....(Of course <img src="images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" smilieid="1" class="inlineimg"> )<br><br>

Opening match is in a few hours between Canada and China<br><br>

The USWNT has a tough opener vs the Aussies on Monday.....

Canada will take 3 points from China, nut they had to be on the receiving end of a PK to do so, a questionable penalty to me.
 
They had a former match ref commissioner on after the game and he said it was a PK....watched the replay and it was a gusty but correct call.....in my mind no doubt it was a penalty....elbow to the face in the box....

Canada dominated the game and nearly walked away with no points....

Well deserved win if for no other reason the way they played...

USA in a very tough group....only group with all four teams ranked in the Top 10.....best third p;lace teams will go forward but USA needs to win this group to avoid the likes of Brazil in the knockout round first game.....

Will not be easy as this team has been up and down for the last year....I am not big fan of Jill Ellis...with that being said this team has the experience etc to win the group and the whole thing.....anything short of that will be a disappointment....

Gulati once again with his reputation on the line with the move he made to bring Ellis in.....

I think we advance....and hopefully as group leaders....but no guarantee....tough group.....

FWIW ESPN always goes brick wall on anything it does not control.....just ask the NHL....

The Dutch beat New Zealand 1-0....may have a chance to advance with Canada to the next round....not a great team but decent for their first WC appearance....

The complete lack of media hype - especially from FIFA - at least partially validates the hype. This has been one of the least hyped sports events.
 
FIFA has more serious issues to deal with right now....like the DOJ....:)

Lot of controversy too with this WC because of the artificial fields....and he players pushing back hard until they got stonewalled by said organization.....

The fact that the Women's WC has expanded from 16 to 24 teams this time around says all you need to know about the growth of the sport world wide....

Like I said the article is not very good and it validates nothing....the expansion of the women's game says it all....

ESPN is notorious for their lack of coverage for anything they do not control....prime example is the NHL....its a joke how they cover it and yet the league has prospered much more since they left ESPN....

Police report says Hope Solo 'repeatedly insulted' officers upon 2014 arrest

Starting to get ugly again and is going to become a distraction for this WC....I am non record that we should have moved on with a new goalie....her baggage is not worth it....


Solo "repeatedly insulted" several officers during the night, per the report. When asked to remove her necklace by one officer, she told him the necklace "was worth more than he makes in a year." When placed back in handcuffs to be transported to a different jail after processing by the officer who filed the report, Solo told the officer that the reason for the handcuffs what that he was "scared" of her.

At one point Solo yelled to an officer, "You know that if the handcuffs were off I'd kick your ass," according to the report.

Her sister and Nephew were on with Bob Ley on ESPN and they said the suit they brought is not over as Hope claimed and is being appealed....with the new information being released with falls in line with behavior when she and her husband were arrested....he for a DUI in an USNT vehicle a few months back....

I am all for second chances and forgiveness....but it appears this is a pattern with her that goes back over the past 5-7 years and Jill Ellis allowing her to be on the team sends all the wrong messages....if I were a teammate I would have a hard time playing with her.....and if I were a fellow goalie would have a hard time playing for Jill Ellis....and Gulati did not handle this well either....

Her lawyer claimed that her having a concussion was why she behaved the way she did and an expert on the show said he had reached out to neurologist who were experts and they said that was a bunch of bunk.....that a concussion would not cause someone to behave that way.....but booze would as she has shown on numerous occasions.....
