Best Osborne Quote Ever

Well maybe not best one ever but awesome and correct at the same time. Best way to describe why you want walkons.

The bold part is what I am talking about.

He initiated college football’s best walk-on program not simply because it insured his roster against injuries or defections, but because volunteers fight harder than mercenaries.

Absolutely.

And not just the walkons, but any recruit without an adequate number of stars associated with their name. Fewer stars sometimes mean you have to work harder to prove yourself and get your shot. TOs teams typically had a good work ethic.

Absolutely, there is one caveat though, things are different and we probably aren't going to be able to replicate the walkon program like back in the day. But the closer we can get to it I believe the better we will be.

OP - not to take away from your point, cause its a cool description, but i believe those were Dirk's words, not Tom's. Dirk is describing the blueprint, and used this analogy to prove the point about the value of walkons.

For TO quotes, I like the ones where he described the team's (or a player's) performance as "reasonably adequate". Also anything that included a mention of "Missourah".

If it is ok with you I am going to attribute it to Tom because I don't like Dirk and didn't realize it when I read it. So in keeping with my 'I won't read anything by Dirk' mantra, I will say that I at least didn't read the whole article. ;)

Great quote.......but I don't know if TO said it or Dirk did. I read it as Dirk's sentiments. Either way it's applicable.
