How many points is he worth on average over a present QB or a Freshman. I know its hypothetical but in my mind the QB is a possible hold-up in what SF is going to be able to accomplish the first year. Would an experienced QB resolve some of that to an average of 10 points more a game? Is that 10 points the difference between going 6-6 or 8-4 the first year?
 

You have to have the right qb for an offensive system to be successful. The right qb will definitely help you win
 
whoever it is better be able to hit north of 60% of his passes. foot speed ranks behind that, decision making, offense knowledge and being able to recognize what's happening on the other side of the LOS.

With that in mind i wouldn't necessarily assume terry wilson is a better "fit" than POB or Gebbia just because he is considered a dual threat. IIRC his passing numbers as a senior were not very good.

Have we even offered him yet? Sounds like if we did he said he’d be N. So it makes me wonder if he is a plan B guy, and if that’s the case I’m not sure I’d like his chances anymore than POB or Gebbia.

No way to really know. It's going to be everyone's first year in a new system so an "experienced QB" is kind of a non-issue in this case.

It's kind of all over the board. I've read that we have offered him and that we haven't offered but that he will accept if we do.

Saw this tonight. SF visited him today. TW will be visiting next week some time instead of this weekend.

IMO having an experienced QB is a critical issue. We would be better served if the field general was a guy with at least some experience in the Frost system (or at least a similar system) that the other players could lean on and learn from.

I think that is why Frost is going after Terry Wilson. If Wilson is offered and he accepts it would not surprise me at all if he was the odds-on favorite to start next year.

Not knocking POB or Gebbia - they are great athletes but I am not sure if they would be a good fit for where we are going on offense.

That's a good argument for Terry Wilson but McKenzie Milton was a true freshman in Frost's first year at UCF. I think the most important factor will be how well the player fits as opposed to how experienced the quarterback is. If that's Terry Wilson, then fine, but that's up to Frost. Gebbia and O'Brien both ran similar offenses in high school but Frost may still want to bring in his own guy.

Milton struggled in his first year - had fans chanting for the backup. If we end up going the T-Willy route i think his year at oregon around P5 speed&athleticism (advantage over A-Mart, not over Gebbia) and his Juco experience (advantage over both A-Mart and Gebbia) give him a real advantage for the huskers. it is likely that Wilson has a really good grasp of what it takes to be a starting P5 QB.

i think the question is Terry Wilson's ceiling. he did not win the Oregon job, his juco offer list is good - but not crazy. I'd guess the career ceilings of Gebbia and A-Mart (A-Magic?) are probably higher. however like the OP indicates, i think his floor is higher because of his experience - especially for next year.
 
I watched a few UCF games last year and Milton was not god at all. His year of progress was very impressive. It takes time to polish a QB.

Not a bad point but I don't think Milton's troubles were all necessarily his fault. O Line, defense, other team members... All were still trying to learn to be a team. Also it shows that Frost sticks with what he believes in. The thing that I like is that Frost is keeping his options open and can probably proceed with who ever he ends up with .

I agree with this...especially if you look at how the QB room could look.

Let's just look at this as if those two were Terry Wilson and Adrian Martinez. There will most likely be some attrition that will allow for this to not even be a concern as far as recruiting numbers go. Having a dual threat with a year of JUCO experience and a high school dual threat QB come in allows for the QB room to not look as bare. Lee could likely decide to declare for the draft or transfer as a graduate since he is starting he is finishing his 5th year of college. Some believe that staying at Nebraska probably wouldn't help his draft stock much since his skill set doesn't lean toward dual threat. If he isn't ready to graduate, the NFL looks to be the best option.

Looking at POB and Gebbia, some on the board feel that either could probably jump in and do what Frost would want...there are differing opinions on who is the better fit or if either would be interested or if Frost even thinks they could do what he would like. I'm sure that Frost has found some time for him and Verduzco to sit down and look at any film on the both of them to get a feel.

So here's what is out there:
Lee--One year of eligibility left. Will he most likely graduate transfer or declare for draft?
POB--Three years of eligibility left. Does he think he can run Frost's offense or will he decide to transfer?
Gebbia--Four years of eligibility left. Does he think he can run Frost's offense or will he decide to transfer?
Wilson--Three years of eligibility left. Will Frost offer? If so, he's N as long as he can deal with moving his visit back.
Martinez--Fours years of eligibility left with a redshirt year. Will he pull the trigger?
Bunch--Three years of eligibility left. Could he be a surprise or is it just good to have a body to help run things in practice?
Darlington--One year of eligibility left. Recruited as a dual threat QB and is now a WR/holder. Does he graduate early or possibly get "cut loose"?

If Lee leaves, then POB, Gebbia, Wilson, Martinez, and Bunch would be a pretty good QB room.
Even Wilson comes in and shows he is the man in the spring and is named starter? Do POB and/or Gebbia look elsewhere?
What if Gebbia or POB win the job in the spring? Does the other look to transfer?

Because of questions like these, if Wilson (as long as Frost offers) and Martinez both want N, taking two QBs would definitely be good for the program. Again I just used Wilson and Martinez as examples because of the upcoming visits...
