Nebraska has it's most talented QB room since '95
With the graduation of Tommy Armstrong, offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf will finally work with a quarterback who fits his pro-style scheme. All three Nebraska scholarship quarterbacks are tall, pro-style passers who fit the mold of the offenses that Langsdorf and head coach Mike Riley ran at Oregon State. Not many teams replace a four-year starter only to improve at the position - but Nebraska is doing exactly that.

A December trip to Indy might be more in reach than you think
Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.
    Micheal Jordan

Husker Fans: Grab your paint brushes, get your plane tickets and make your hotel reservations for the B1G Conference Championship game December 2nd in Indianapolis.

Sound crazy? That goal might be more real than most people imagine.

But how is that possible? All the "experts" are picking Wisconsin to win it. NU is even picked by one preseason mag to finish fourth in the West...

Getting caught up on correspondence from readers
It's time to get caught up on some of the emails I've received from my readers.

    GREATNESS?
    Dear Husker Dan:

My husband and I went to school at UNL in the mid-90s. We saw several of the best Husker football teams ever and maybe they were the best football teams ever play college football.

Do you think Nebraska will ever regain that level of excellence?
    Thea Lader
    Houston, TX

    Dear Thea:
It-th, I mean, it's hard for any team to reach that level of greatness. To be...

    This Just In…

    2017 looms large for Riley

Walking out to the car today I was putting my things in getting ready for the typical daily grind, when a few leaves fell and landed on my seat. Hmmm….it’s August, but I guess fall is right around the corner. Of course living in Texas August and September still mean 100 degree heat and melting humidity.

Seems like just yesterday I was tuning out of another crushing bowl performance, and yet here we are right on the cusp of...

A Max at QB, a Riley milestone and more
    BIG RED MAX?
Max Duggan (Council Bluffs Lewis Central pro-style quarterback) has been offered a scholarship by the Huskers for the 2019 class. If Max chooses NU, his nickname would likely be (with his crop of red hair) "Big Red Max." Or, he might be called "Super Max," or even "Mad Max." Or (are you listening, David Max?): Husker Max! BTW, the kid can run and throw. By 2019, Tanner Lee will be gone; Patrick O'Brien will be a junior and Tristan Gebbia will likely be...

When the time comes for that Big Husker Tailgate in the sky
At my ripe old age, it dawned on me recently that all those who will ever play football for Nebraska in my lifetime, have likely already been born. Whoa! I didn't see that one coming!

And so it's to all you fellow geezers and geezerettes out there (and you know who you are), I am dedicating the following prayer.

    Dear Lord:
I know one day you'll have to take me to that Big Husker Tailgate in the sky, but, I pray you don't take me before the...

Is a breakthrough season for Mohamed Barry on the horizon?
Bo Pelini did some excellent work as a Nebraska defensive coordinator during his one-year run in 2003.

Pelini, formerly a linebacker coach for the Green Bay Packers, took a suspect defense that was embarrassed in Ames and Manhattan the previous year, and made it a lot better right away.

Can Bob Diaco, the former Connecticut head coach and Notre Dame defensive coordinator, do as well out of the starting gate in Lincoln as did Pelini? Can he do as much for a defense that was embarrassed last...

Things are looking up, but the Huskers are probably a year away.
The Nebraska football team put an exclamation point on the high school camp season. Husker coaches participated in satellite camps at Texas A&M (June 4), Texas-San Antonio (June 5), Florida Atlantic (June 8), Florida International (June 8), Mercer University in Macon, Georgia (June 7), Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri (June 10), and the University of the Redlands in California (June 11). They also held camps in Lincoln on June 16 and 23.

    It was the team's...

In third season, clear progress by NU coach would bring healing to the Heartland
How long will Husker Nation continue to be a house divided?

When will the clamor about Mike Riley finally die down? At times, Nebraska fans seem like two nations at war. Can we reach a consensus on the nice guy from Corvallis who makes brilliant off-the-field decisions and proved that you can indeed persuade four- and five-star high school prospects to take a serious recruiting trip to Lincoln – but who already has a losing season at NU, and whose winning percentage as coach of the Big Red...

Satire of a recent inaccurate preview
This is the latest installment of my previews of every football team in the continental United States, by me - a guy barely known outside of my immediate family. In twelve minutes, I'll release my overview of the Arcadia Huskies season. But first, the other big red school in the state:

    Nebraska Corn-huskers

New coach Lincoln Riley takes over in Mike, Nebraska replacing beloved, Hall of Fame coach Bo Pelini. Riley, whose legacy includes running the OSU (Oklahoma Sooners...
