Parsing the Huskers Coaching Possibilities

I think it will be a long shot for MJ to get the job. That being said he will gain some invaluable experience from being put into this situation that will help him in the future.

If all these wonderful in the know insiders would have been willing to share all the shortcomings they knew for three years, Frost apologists wouldn't have been carrying his water for the past three years, mostly. Now, they want to tell the story, and blame those that weren't aware of what was going on.

It was a decent article, but he can get bent on the name calling

Some tried and people would have the ridiculous response like "link?" or some other dismissive reply. That's my favorite passive aggressive response BTW. Like a poster is supposed to say, "oh hey my source is so and so."

I tried to mention things and got attacked for it. Who wants that? People who have sources or get tidbits here and there don't want to post them and then have to defend what they've heard. Where's the motivation in that?

To be fair there have been people talking about the shortcomings, but they were all anonymous posters on a forum and not someone in a position with more credibility so I can understand the hesitation to believe the things that were being said.

Husker nation needs a lot of healing, I'll get it started:

I'm N!

If Mickey Joseph wants the job, I am pulling for him. He's a great recruiter, his position players get better under his coaching, and he handles the media presence required of head coaches.

Of course the Huskers have to finish strong. I think the assumption that he would have to make a bowl is wrong. This team is weak. Haven't beaten a power 5 in a year. If he could get them to 5 or 6 wins that would be successful.

Assuming he brings in great coordinators and assistants, as suggested in the article, he would be a good catch. And I think having a black head coach with all the qualities listed above makes it so.
With his lack of head coach experience, he's gotta do something most consider impossible. Six wins in the next 8 games.

I can sympathize to an extent. I guess if there was a consensus knowledge of everyone in the press about Scott half assing his coaching responsibilities, getting everyone to report would be helpful. Being the lone man could be daunting.
To be honest, the only thing I've seen on here was the accusations regarding a bar in the past 6 months. And the mostly armchair quarterback in of bringing his entire staff. Although I seem to recall you had initial reservations.

But to my original point, you can't neglect to report on Scott half assing his job, then call people names because they weren't aware.

Maybe I have selective listening/comprehension but if someone on this board or even better a member of the media would say ... Frost is missing meetings, he is consistently late for practices and has assistants running to the AD.

4 losing seasons in a row will create a lot of noise and SF was not immune from that noise but even I bought into the coaching changes, incoming transfers, departure of 2AM as positive moves that would have created an 8 or 9 win season! If I would have heard and/or comprehended the depth of the mismanagement I would have had a much different perspective.

I enjoy your articles. Thank you for keeping those of us not in the know, somewhat in the know. My question to you is this - can NU afford to wait until the first week of December to hire a coach? Wouldn't they be better off hiring a Meyer or Peterson who can start the building process earlier? Or will there be a time when coaches leave their team before season end?

If Meyer and/or Petersen are looking to get back into coaching they certainly would exercise the option of waiting to see what options are going to be available instead of accepting the first decent offer.

Frankly the only things I recall being talked about on this board were that he and his assistants would go to casinos/strip clubs and that he and his wife were having marital problems. Nothing about missing meetings or being late for practice. Some things about Metro Omaha coaches not getting enough love. But they have felt that all the way back to Callahan.

The real reason why I don't buy into a lot of stuff from guys that say they have a "Friend" in the AD department is that I have a "Friend" a really good friend who had 2 sons that were walk on players at Nebraska. He spent a lot of time in the AD department and he was very rarely right about anything he told me.

All of that may be true, but branding those who wanted to give Frost every opportunity to sink or swim (and that includes Trev Alberts) as "Frost apologists" accomplishes what? I think you're better than that.
Regardless, let's look forward like Trev Alberts suggested.

Good advice. Are you ready, or do you need more time?

I think the problem is that everyone outside of Frost only had fragments of the story. @N2FL can correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like several journalists had heard unconfirmed incidents that didn't mean much individually. You can't write a story about a coach being late a few times or being seen at a bar a few times. If you could get multiple sources to go on the record about overall management issues, that's a story. I expect that was a hard thing to do when the likely sources wanted Frost/the team to succeed, and the sources knew critical stories would hurt that effort. After Frost was fired, there were fewer reasons to hold back.

Maybe I missed too many threads, but most of threads I read hinted at issues and concerns without actually stating them. If you are in the loop you might have been able to read between the lines, but most of us aren't.

I would think they have a pretty good idea of what might open up this year. There is always a possibility of a surprise but at this point a lot of writing is on the walls.
